bad FPS on good system

im getting lousy fps between 30-40. my system specs are as follows:

asus a8n32-sli
amd 4400 x2
ocz platinum 2x1gb
evga 7900gt (84.21 drivers)
x-fi xtrememusic

In game my settings are all HIGH except for Dynamic Shadows set to MEDIUM. In the ForceWare control panel i have picture set to HIGH QUALITY and 4X AA / 16X AF. Check out these screen shots for proof of bad fps. btw when i press print screen to take screenshots it fuzzed up my screen real bad a few times.








Edit: If it helps, I scored 4788 in 3DMARK06. But i've been seeing people with the same setup as me getting atleast 60fps steady.

set the image to quality or performance.

have u got n e programs running in the background, ie MSN messenger, norton, etc etc.

If yes, close them all down b4 u play as i hear BF2 runs on approx 1.5GB with most settings on high.

I had a similar problem to you. My system specs are as follows:

3.4 P4 (1MB cache)
2 GB RAM
XFX 7900GT (520/1500)
X-Fi Xtreme Music

I tried upgrading / reinstalling video drivers, no help. No matter what video settings I ran in BF2 my framerate was always the same.

Finally I totally uninstalled BF2 and reinstalled from scratch, minus SF (couldn't be bothered at the moment). FPS is now much more impressive as even with everything high I see lows of maybe 30, but often 60-90 FPS. My account takes about 10 seconds to log in now whereas previously it could take a minute or two.

I would suggest that you delete your whole "Battlefield 2" folder under "My Documents" to reset all your settings, cache etc. If that doesn't work then do a full reinstall.

I would recommend using in-game settings for AA and AF as it seems to mess with text when you use the Nvidia control panel. Quality should be fine like that, but you could turn on Transparency AA and Gamma through the control panel. You may want to check out nHancer for a more user friendly way to manage your Nvidia profiles.

Actually a full reinstall probably isnt necessary, or only as a last resort. I would do a search for all files with the csx extension (*.csx). These are your files that everyone sayes you should delete in "my documents" on some systems they are hard to find. Delete them all, I found about 4 thousand on my computer. This will force the game to reoptomise while loading, I would suggest going into an empty server the first time after deleteing the files. That way you can let it do its thing unattended and come back in about 5-10 minutes to check your frame rate. It should be, with your system, at least 80, my guess, anyway on an empty server. Then you can become commander and test it during near by arty strike, it will dip but should still be about 60 plus. (I would say these numbers are close to what you should get if the actual numbers are higher thats even better)
I would also use a program called "smart close". It will close all unnecessary programs but you may need to turn off your virus protection manually. Also smart close can be adjusted to leave needed programs open, like your mouse software (I leave my MX-518 software open) or your joy stick software ( It left open on mine too).
I would also go to the 3dmark web site and check for someone with a similar system set up and use the over clock settings that they use ( I would start in the 10 thousand area the higher numbers may be water cooled systems). Each system has a sweet spot (settings for CPU, memory and video card). You might be able to run with one set of numbers higher but it will not improve the score. Also your mother board might not have an identifyable setting for the memory dont worry about it. For now just get the CPU and Video card lined out. You can try adjusting some of the video card driver settings down also, as you might have some kind of a conflit going on there as well.
When all this is done go into a server with about 30 to 40 players and a ping less than 80 and see if this helped. I bet all your problems will be gone. If you should still have problems I would now do the uninstall, Defrag and reinstall. Dont forget the defrag in the middle, its the most important part.
I know this is long but I tried to include everything I could think of. With a system like yours you should see high FPS all the time using the game settings you described. Good Luck. . . . . .Red


I forgot one thing, Its possible that the problem may not be on your end. If you play on the same server all the time try a different server. There are 2 or 3 that I cant play on the FPS just will not get above 16. Almost all other servers are ok though (for me).

i tried most of what you said, except for the overclocking since i dont really want to do that. i went into the empty server and my fps was 60-80. i threw a smoke nade and my fps dropped to 35. im going to see what the fps does now in a 64 man server, ill check back.

Haha, that's what you get for buying a high end card !!!! whehe just joking... i have seen alot of people with this problem... a mate of mine had the same only with a 7800 gtx.... but his screen was fuzzy all the time... he cleared all the drivers and reinstalled them and then he did a full reinstall on bf2....and if that doesnt work than it's time to fool around with your settings...

Its likely the processor which is causing slow-downs after a while. It can be solved by disabling one core or try the hotfix from Microsoft.

I am having the same type of problem.

Specs:
MB: ASUS P5P800 865PE Chipset
CPU: Intel P4 3.0gHz with HT (LGA 775)
RAM: 4 X 512mb PC3200 running dual
Video: ASUS v9999 6800 256bit 256mb GE (supposedly between a GT and an Ultra)
HD: Seagate 120gig normal IDE
Sound: Creative Labs Live 24-bit.

My problem is that I can't even run the game at 800*600 without AA and everything set to high without it been choppy. Also my sound does not work properly when EAX is enabled or set to medium or high on either hardware or software.

I have the latest drivers and BIOS loaded for sound, MB and video. So then I started to look around.

Last night I tried the games at 1280 by 960 @ 75 with everything set to low. Got between 89 to 102 fps. Apparently anything higher than 60 fps is playable. Oh ja....this is in singleplayer mode as well.

I saw somewhere that I should try disabling HT on my machine so I am gonna try that and then apparently my sound card could be slowing the machine down as well.

Could any1 give me some more pointers or places to check. Would really appreciate it. Also is 128kbps ISDN fast enough to play online?
