    CTD after latest patch

So BF2 has been running flawlessly on my system until I recently installed the latest patch. Patch installed ok, but now I am getting CTD's every 20-30 minutes. I set my CPU and GPU back to stock speeds but I am still having the same problems. I deleted the tmp files in the BF2 directory, and I am running the latest NVIDIA drivers on a pretty fresh XP Pro build. I would prefer not having to un-install and re-install and I'm hoping someone has a quicker fix. Sucks that the game was running so well, and now this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

btw. AMD64 3000 and BFG 7800GT and 2GB Geil DDR

Have you defragged post-patch? The only time I've ever gotten CTD's were after patching if I didn't defrag. After the defrag I never get a CTD until the next patch.

Yeah, I tried multiple defrags, the only resaon I have not reformatted is b/c I just did a fresh build a week or so ago. Also the CTD's seem to happen mostly while in vehicles. Very strange. I thought RAM errors at first so i actually ran a divider and set my RAM in the 180mhz range and dropped my CPU and vid card back to stock timings. Still the same. All my other games are still running fine, and this is the first problem with BF2 I've had. Going to try a un-install and re-install. If that doesnt cut it I may hang BF2 up for a bit and wait till the next patch. Not going to rebuild a fresh build just for BF2. Time is a valuable thing nowadays. Thanks again for any replys with help and suggestions.

Have you played around with your in-game video settings to see if that makes a difference? I would guess from your hardware that you're probably doing most things on high. If so, try throttling a few of them back to medium. Check out the TweakGuides guide for BF2. They say that most settings have about no appreciable visible difference between medium and high. I sat for a few hours one night testing the settings and tend to agree with them.

          Re: CTD after latest patch

Yeah I killed the AA and dropped everything to low at 800x600. I usually run everything on High at 1024x768. Still getting CTD's as well as playing an ugly game :) Didn't get to try a Un-install re-install yet. Are there any left behind files after the un-install I should delete? Wonder if my patch file was corrupt? It installed just fine though. Can I roll back the patch without un-installing the whole game? Then I'll download a new patch. Everything was fine before 1.22. I guess I can always go back to 1.21. Never got a single CTD in that version. Who knows at this point. Thanks again for the suggestions Cheesewz.

I've been getting CTD all the time since last patch too. Everything I have is stock, I run everything on low, and I've played since the demo with no problems until this last patch. All other games work fine.

At least I'm not the only one. How long until the next patch?

                Re: CTD after latest patch

So I finally fixed BF2. I first tried uninstall adn reinstall. Repatched and BAM same thing CTD. So I started messing with my hardware and noticed I had my RAM underclocked. It was running at 360 instead of 400. I changed my divider and FSB and set my RAM back to 400 and I played for 8 hours straight. Now why would BF2 CTD with underclocked or overclocked RAM? I tried a minor OC and the CTD's started again. All my other games play fine with RAM OC'd I also played since day one on 1GB of OC'd RAM and didn't start getting the CTD's until 1.22 and with 2GB of RAM. Games a strange duck I tell ya.
