Esc key - crash to desktop

I can hardly use the Esc key without Bf2 crashing to desktop! This is very annoying as it means I seldom exit Bf2 cleanly as useing the Esc key to access the menu to disconnect and then Exit the game, is forstalled by the crashing! (Sometimes I can re-enter Bf2 by Alt-tabbing)
Is this a common fault & can I do anything about it?

All Hardware settings are conservative and all drivers, patches etc up to date!
Bf2 set all to HIGH. Sound:- XFi Ultra-High Eax etc etc

Your PC might have trouble loading the background movie when you try to load the menu. Try deleting the movies (make backups) and see if you still have crashing problems. Make sure you try it in single player mode so Punkbuster won't ban you for editing your files.

Don't think background movies are the problem. The crash-to-desktop happens when I hit Esc in-game as well when a map has ended! In about 60% of the time instead of the Menu loading the game will crash to desktop. My system is not particularly sensitive or anything,
Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

Although I had to laugh when in reply to another forum I was informed that Windoze "no longer has stability problems"!!!! Only someone who has not run a stable OS like Linux could say something like that!
