Help with LAN over two computers please

Ok, I am trying to play a LAN game between to computers. I have two leagal copies of BF2 (and also one BF2:SF) installed one the computers (One of the computers also has BF2:SF on it). I am trying to play a LAN game between them but whenever I try connect it say's to "check the network connection".

What is happening here? I have tried disabling both firewall and anti-virus programs on both computers but there is nothing different. So, does anyone know what to do to fix this problem?

Also, if you need anyother infomation on the computer's please tell me what I need to tell you.

    Thanks

Are you directly connecting both computers? If so a regualr patch cable will not work, you will need a crossover cable.

Or are you using a hub or switch?

I take it bought systems are XP ?
Run network wizard, call 1 system1 other system2 / Network name has to be the same on bought systems / after that just try accessing the other - shared drive. You can leave firewall on just give access.

We are running XP on both computers. We got them sharing drives but BF2 is installed in program files and sharing is not allowed in program files. Should we instal BF2 outside program files directory or is there something else we can do?

          Thanks

Did you do the steps I told you in your PM?

No the directory BF2 is in won't have anything to do with it.

We already have seperate IP's with the same subnet as you said in your PM.

Yes, we can ping both ways.

Also, I have to go for a bit. If you leave anything here I will do my best to get back to you.

When you said you disabled the firewall, did you mean you disabled the third party firewall AND the windows builtin firewall?

Re: Help with LAN over two computers please

the easy way would be to use a router not a hub,and make sure you have internet connection on both cpu's.

start a singleplayer game on pc1 then connect to ip on pc2 and it should work.

i have 3 cpu all sharing the same connection through a router, each pc also uses zonealarm, and windows firewall is on.one pc is a dedicated server, other 2 are gaming.
but i dont alsways load a dedicated.

i had similar problems with a hub,

my router has a firwall built in also.

                      hope this helps.

i recomend you google for bf2_botchanger and bf2sp64
add more bots and play on bigger maps.
