    Connecting to account server?

    Is anyone else having problems?

It just sits there forever. I'm on the 4th hour of trying to connect to the account server with no luck. My neighbors profile can log in, and logging into his computer with my account stalls the game in the same spot.

I tried deleting the account and retrieving it - but it stalls on retreival.

Any ideas? Do you think something got messed up on my account that throws things into an infinite loop? According to task manager - BF2 is no responding, but the "2" still spins and the music loops.

Was it working earlier today?? Maybe your firewall could be blocking you from connecting.

does it just take a long time? or does it not log in at all?

doesn't log in at all. again - i've been waiting for it to log in for 4 hours on my laptop. it also won't log in on my main computer - but all the other profiles on this comp work fine (the neighbor kids profile, and my freind that plays sometimes). They work no problem.

well i don't use a firewall, i'm naked. also - all the other profiles work, so the problem is with my profile. And it can't be anything in cache screwing it up, because it also haults on my laptop and the neighbors computer.

          Re: Connecting to account server?

I bought the game when it first came out, but threw the DVD in the desk drawer and did not touch the game for 6 months because if this exact problem.

Still to this day, I will on occasion get this so here is a little advice:

When I first make my initial attempt to connect to the account server, I click connect and do not touch *any keyboard keys or buttons on my mouse.

For whatever reason, if I'm in the "connection loop" and I try to ALT+TAB out or CTRL+ALT+DEL to open up the Windows task manager; I get stuck on that connection screen and can't close it or access any other elements of Windows.

If I connect and get thrown in the loop and do not touch any keys or buttons however, I'll get the "connection failed" message and can shut down BF2 without issue.

As for the reason it won’t connect, your guess is as good as mine, one minute it's fine, the next it's not.

And the connection problem is always BF2 specific, as in I can play other games and do anything else online when I'm getting the BF2 account connection issue.

And as for it being a problem with your profile, I doubt it.

I have my entire profile folder backed up in a rar file and extracting it (to overwrite the existing one) makes no difference.

i still think its profile related - because other profile data besides just controls and video settings are stored on the server and retrieved upon login.

i think what's happening is that something that i am retrieving throws the game into a loop.

Also, other profiles work fine. I bet if I created a new account it would work fine and I could play as a Private. It also freezes other computers when i use my account, and on totally seperate networks (i used a VPN to change networks to my company's).

EDIT: EA seems to think itys my graphic drivers. Pfft. That makes no sense

Also could be your ISP server is down, restart your computer or wait. Chrck for any loose cables or something in your net router.

I appreciate the advice; but again, other profiles work fine on this computer. I also changed entire networks (i'm a network engineer for cisco).

It freezes all computer who try to use my profile.

Hell if you want, I'll change my password to something temporary and let you log in, i bet it will crash BF2, but your profiles will still work just fine.

                  Re: Connecting to account server?

Try clearing out your server favorites/history list. For some strange reason, that list is pinged before you are alowed to go beyond the account login screen. If you've got a bunch of servers in there that are down, it has to wait for each one to time out before letting you in.

I was getting about 3 minutes worth of wait before I clued into this. Now it's about 10 seconds.

To do this manually (and quickly) open the general.con file with notepad. It should be in mydocuments/Battlefield 2/Profiles/[profile number (presumably 001)].
Delete any lines that look like this:
                  GeneralSettings.addFavouriteServer "64.69.47.109" 29900 "Team Wonderful's RANKED BF2 Server"

You should be able to log in WAY faster.
Just be careful when you're pawing around in files like that. One oops can cause you a major headache.

                    Re: Connecting to account server?

Thanks for tryin wargimp, but the server cache is local-only. It still doesn't explain why it crashes any computer.

I also tried deleting my account and re-adding it. Same freeze while retrieving the account.

And i left it going for 4 hours and it didn't log in.

any other advice? it's ****in me off.

I agree, but I'm reluctant. I doubt it will work because I bought 3 copies of BF2 (one for my comp, one for me laptop, and one [don't tell my boss] for my work computer)

my account doesn't work on any of them.

The issue seems to have fixed itself.

I haven't tried in about a month (it was still crashing in June) but now it works fine.

If you'd like to know how long it took, I posted this thread on April 24th.

I can now play as troybob instead of "troyb0b"
