    Re: AOL , please help

    a) rightclick "my network places" (on desktop)
    b) click "create a new connection" (upper left corner of opening window)
    that starts the wizzard
    a series of selections via radio buttons
    1) "Connect to the Internet"
    >>> click next
    2) "Set up my connection manually"
    >>> click next
    3) "Connect using a broadband connection that requires user name ........."
    >>> click next
    if you do this for the first time on a PC, then before step 3)
    there might be another selection necessary ..... something general regarding dialup connection
    anyway .... if the modem is installed correctly he should be able to take it from there
    username for login = SCREENNAME@aol.com

    Let me know if this works or not

      Austrailians think broadband is a female rock group still. Cable probadly means the telephone. I think technology hasn't hit yet, either that our he lives in the Outback.

          Already answered.

          How do i turn off AOL and still connect ?
          The required steps are probably too complicated for you. If you're determined to stay with AOL, ring their support so they can hold your hand through the process, which will probably not make much of a difference. Tell them you want to remove the AOL software and connect manually. This will involve uninstalling AOL, uninstalling the ADSL modem, reinstalling the ADSL modem and setting up a new connection.

            ok,

            2.2mb is great, i have the same speed but with BT. i get pings averging 30.

            if you have broadband your interent should be connected at all times, you shouldnt need to run the AOL internet explorer. have you tried the normal windows explorer to see if you can surf the net? or another way of seeing if your connected is do an program update, like norton internet security and see if that will update, that will prove if your connected

              Hi there im in the uk using aol 2.2mb the best thing you can do is completely uninstall anything aol on your computer and just make a fresh network. I have had my pc for 3 months now and it has never had the crappy aol software on it, i also use internet explorer which works fine. Also with regards to bf2 my ping is great and never had any issues regarding my connection unless the server is f**ked.

                Iam with AOL and there one of the worst internet hosts you can get for high speed gaming.If you are running AOL in the background it takes up alot of your RAM.Since i got my router i can now stay connected to the internet without connecting to AOL crappy browser and its other software.

                  this will work.i have AOL and dsl and it worked for me. AOL configed there program so you cant connect to internet unless you use there program if u ordered it as a package.and that the only way to get around it. use your aol screen name and password for that connection.

                  you will get a little icon somewhere on your comp.cant remember where tho.but you will login from there without starting aol up.and it will free up alot of ram for playing BF2.

                    Re: AOL , please help

                    AOL is the worst ISP for games like BF2 because of their setup.
                    I have 1200k Nildram ADSL and I can play on any server in the world just fine, UK servers give me a ping of 10-15 at the most.
