[ATTN] Anyone that is good with JoyToKey

I have it set up so that I can spot with my joystick, But I'm not too good with the program yet.. How do I make it so that when I press ctrl I can look around with my joystick in cockpit view? I know it has something to do with mouse emulation.. or something.. I don't know.

And, what are some other cool things this will do?

Talus seems to be the site's JoyToKey expert. :) You might try doing a forum search using both him and the keyword "JoyToKey" as the search criteria to see what useful threads there are.

Here's an older one that I have bookmarked: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28260.

In order to perform MouseLook you do not need JoyToKey.

Open up your controls.con file with NOTEPAD. Youll find it in your profile folder, which is my case is-

      C:\Documents and Settings\Vass\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

What you do need is bind joystick as a mouse in controls.con file.

Scroll down in the file until you reach this-

      ControlMap.create AirPlayerInputControlMap

And simply add two lines under the line above

      ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIMouseLookX IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_0 0 0
      ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_PIMouseLookY IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_1 0 0

Now, when you hold down CTRL, by moving your joystick, you can look around.

I suggest you do the exact same thing to helicopter controls, which you can find just below air controls.

The game won't accept any other input while you're mouselooking, like spotting or even steering. In other words, you can't adjust your default view angle and keep flying as normal, your HUD disappears, you can't steer, and if you try to spot it returns you to default view. This gives it very limited use outside of a hovering helicopter.

This is a 3rd party program which is cheating...
It gives an unfair advantage, to those not using it...

uhh.. thats 3rd party thing is bull****. EVERYONE has at least one program or another running in the background... which is "3rd party".

Like I have some ATI utilities (its ATI, not EA... so 3rd party..), Ventrilo, and a couple other things.

Are you serious? Ive been doing mouselook since the first time I read that tip from these forums. WITH the joystick, mind you.

EDIT: Sorry. Meh, I misunderstood, misread and fracked up :P

Im setting up a quick pictorial guide for you right now guitarist. Mind you that the method I used above is still the best.

Ok. If you want to use JoyToKey to simulate Mouse movement on JS, thats fine. Heres how you do this.

First lets open it up and name a name for the new profile. Right click on the first joystick angle.

              Choose "CONFIGURE THIS KEY"

Choose MOUSE bar and drag the mouse movement to the direction it should simulate the joystick.

Again. Actually binding joystick to mouselook in controls.con file is so much better.

Re: [ATTN] Anyone that is good with JoyToKey

Well i have joytokey setup to do the following:

Q spot with a button push
Look left and right just by moving the pov-hat
Push my button to talk on teamspeak

I don't really use the look left and right much i prefer using flyby/chase front view. I think the only way possible to do it they way you want is the method stated above, however you would lose control of the aircraft while doing it. Then again that happens with joy2key aswell.

                        Hmmm...

For example. Theres radio button B. You set your joysticks button 1 to emulate that button B. And so forth.

Just try the program and discover it. I have found good use for it.

JtK is great, I use it for several games.
In Bf2 I use 2 instances of JTK to bind ctrl and mouse function to the POV switch. So that all I have to do to look is push the hatswitch left or right. I also have a radio button mapped to a joystick button and mouse1 mapped to trigger so that spotting and radio commands are possible from the joystick alone.
