A suggestion to improve VoIP communication for the future

After 23rd April, I will have to be off for a little while until I get back online again. So here is what I would like to see upon my return.

I enjoy BF2 and SF enormously. I love the VoIP feature which is well implemented. Only 1 trivial thing I would like to have of possible, in future patches. I was inspired by another great movie known as "The Rock" by Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris and Sean Cornnery. It is about the radio. Don't you find it a bit lack of atmosphere when you VoIP your Commander or your sqaud mates? Most of the time I put on my headphones when I play the game and in between, I hear the other chap VoIP'g to me. Whilst all the surrounding noise was going on like artillery strike, rockete flying around, air-2-surface missile just dashes above my head and a few shrepnel has hit my badge on my shoulder, someone's voice suddenly cuts in and supresses all those 'battle music". I don't like that.

What I want to suggest is that add the in-game sound effects "battle music" I would like to call it, to the voice transmitting via VoIP. This makes the game atmosphere more contents rich.

Add in environmental VOIP (meaning that only those in your vicinity can hear you- it would be in person and not over the radio band) function and I'd love the game even more. Not only can teammates in vehicles hear you, but other teammates you're running around with could hear you too. ...as well as enemies.

Inlcude a ventrilo server equal in size to the amount of players in the server you rent for an extra $5 and leave VOIP out of the game all together...

fyi, x-fi cards have the ability to add evironmental sounds to the mic. There is a slider in the xfi's console that varies the amount added.

Most of my friends i regularly play with already have that feature, its called using speakers instead of headphones That way you always get the "battle sounds" of the person thats speaking.

Its especially atmospheric when 2 of us are flying jets and one calls for help to get someone off his tail, so you hear the lock-on tone in the background, it adds a sense of urgency

The main thing i would like to see added is the ability for squad leaders to contact other squads, would save time in planning flag assaults without needing to relay it through the commander (and hope he has a mic to pass it on as well)

We should be able to talk to other squads aswell to co-ordinate attacks. It's a pain in the rear when you could have easily spoke to another squad leader instead of trying to type.
            EDIT: like Teaves said :P

This would SO rock. It's also long overdue.
Unfortunatly, it's also tech that is underdeveloped and may be undesirable.

In theory, it sounds like a great idea, but in practice it could be a bad thing. With the current system, there's no reason for smack-tards to go off since they can't adress the enemy. If you had enviromental sound, you'd have every mal-ajusted 14 year old yappin off every time they made a kill or got nailed. It's sad, but I don't think the player community is mature enough to handle it.

Great idea, that would add SO much atmosphere to the game!

That may well be- but at least it would only be audible to those in the immediate vicinity and not over the radio. I don't see why this isn't already in the game. If you hop in a chopper with someone who's not in your squad, why shouldn't you be able to talk to them without joining/creating a squad.

I see what you mean about it becoming abusive, though. It would take teabagging your enemies to an all new level... "You liked that, didn't ya big boy?! Did you see that nasty headshot?" *teabag teabag teabag*

Just don't allow the enemy to hear you.

That would kill the entire premise behind "Environmental Audio". I think it would add another element of realism if you could be heard talking (it would be another "press button to talk" function). It would be similar to when you hear players say "Get ammo, here!" Both friendlies and enemies can hear that if they're in the vicinity.

Yeah if the VOIP cant be as good as Teamspeak I would just leave it out. Or Ventrillo either one but all our clan has always like Teamspeak much better but that's another debate. Probably quite a few leaders get mad at us because of us not responding to his commands but we all turn off the VOIP feature.

First off it just sucks as said before compared to our TS server.

Second it sucks bandwidth and causes lag on flaky connections and TS dont.
