15 FPS over and over again !?!?

When i had 512mb of Ram(2x256) i got around 15-20 fps in karkand on single-player ... what was ridiculous since all specs were on low and my system is not (at least i think it isn't) that crappy :
P4 2.4Ghz
512mb RAM
Geforce 6600 256mb
So i bought another 1gb of ram (now with 2x256 + 1x1gb). When i opened karkand on single-player it was smooth with medium graphics, but when i checked the fps the same 15-20 showed up ... and even when i put the graphics on low again ... same 15-20 fps ....
My question is if that's normal for my specs or if there is some kind of problem ... and if there is, what's the solution :)

*And something else ... how many system processes do you guys have running on your windows ?? because i have 30 or so .... which it's kind of frightening *

More ram is not going to increase your FPS on any linear relationship. It is going to decrease your level load times and sporadically drop your frame rate based on when and if it needs to fetch from disk.

Your frame rate is pretty much tied to your GPU, your CPU, and the speed of your RAM. Your FPS sounds a bit low, but I'm an AMD guy so I can't comment with any authority.

Regarding processes, the more crap you install on your PC, the more processes you are going to have running by default. There is no way around it, regardless of how lightweight you think the app you are installing is. I have a pretty clean system and I have about 8 user-specfic processes running under my user name after boot. When I'm really set on having the highest frame rates I close out all user processes except for taskmgr.exe and IEXPLORE.EXE.

I have only 3 processes on my user name after boot taskmanager , explorer and ccapp .... the other 27 are all system processes .... is this normal ?!

That is high... I have about 15-20 or so.. if i remember correctly.. but you can always cull them down.. (not recomended unless you know what you are doing).

I have a similar problem though.. i never seem to get over 20fps.. never.. even when i run at 800x600@60hz with everything low/off and 50% view.. the fps dont change.. is it just that fraps isnt working properly??? But i get 99/100 in menus... so i really dont know...

My old pc was a Intel 2.4 with HT 800 FSB, 1 GB value ram and a 6600GT (AGP) and I got 45+ FPS @ 1024x768 pretty much all the time apart from the most fierce fire fights.

My question to Alpha-code is what Front side bus does your cpu support and do you have it running in daul channel? What are the rated speeds of all your sticks of ram ie. PC3200 (DDR400) or PC2700 (DDR333) etc....

Your poor FPS may me down to your graphics card as the plain 6600 isnt that powerfull.

Merlin - All my ram sticks are DDR 400 ... and i don't know what a front side bus is (i'm a little stupid regarding hardware ), so if u tell me where i can find the info u need ill post here

okay well lets first establish:

you play on medium and it runs smooth DISREGARDING that is says 15-20 FPS correct?
so right there, you dont need to worry because it plays fine.
go into you nvidia drivers (you should have them installed) and find vertical sync, or vsync and make sure it is turned off.

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php CPUID will tell you pretty much all you want to know about your hardware. Downloads and the bottom of the page.

It "should" tell you that you have a 200 FBS.

Try forcing V-Sync off from your Driver properties. V-Sync will always limit your frame rate to prevent image tearing. Notice why the frame rate is perfect 20 or 30 the whole time? That's because V-Sync is limiting the frame rate to it.
