Latency

Hi,

I had comcast out today to take a look at my latency problem. I am only getting latency when it comes to BF2.

I am averaging 8.2 Megs per second on an download and average of about 800k per upload.

I have a fairly beefy pc, specs are

Duel Pent (D) 4 @ 3.2gigz

DDR2 (Dual) 2048MBytes

Nvidia GeForce 7800 x's 2


Over 400 gigs of memory still available

I have ran my spyware as well as my anti-virus and its all good to go. I updated servers and I think the lowest server I found my ping was about 166. I played half life2 and counter strike on various servers both from Cali - New York and my average pink was about 65. Im based in Michigan and I was playing on a few servers today with BF2 and my ping was well over 150+ This is driving me totally bonkers. I have even replaced my router. I am willing to try anything right now.

I play Dark Age, Counter Strike, Half Life all on line and I have no latency issues, just with BF2.

Ok so when i first read the title i thought this was going to be about RAM, but here we goa anyways.

So it sounds like you're sure it ain't your system.

Well i had an issue awhile ago where i was expereinceing lag and extremely high pings after a short ammount of playing. around 45 to start then jumped to 300+. I went through and did a thourough spyware/anti-virus check, then went on to my processes/services/startups and weeded them out.

Well i use a router as well, live in an apartment, and wire a cable through to my neighbor (dont tell COX!! ). As i began to suspect, my neighbors computer was in dire need of a tune up. The already mentioned spyware, antivirus, and especially go through all process and start-ups, weed those.

After that i rebooted his computer, i find that sometimes a reboot really helps if you keep a computer on or in stand-by, without ever rebooting.

It turns out all his crap was clogging the pipeline, i use a cable line around 500mb or so, but the bandwith was still being used up.

So my suggestion is if you can get access to other computers on the line, check them they are most likely the source of the problems.

edit:
A simple way for me to check if bandwith is an issue is to see if the numbers on the router are constantly flashing like hell when nobody is home next door. If yes it is time to clean my neighbors computer.
