chopping play even at 70fps?!?

Sorry if this has been posted, but I searched and couldnt find an exact answer. I just build a newer system as my old system was very outdated. I now have an Athlon 3700+, with a gig of dual channel ddr400, and an Evga superclocked PCI-e 6800gs (couldnt afford the big dog), and my c drive is a 36 gig raptor. When I play at the settings I currently have (most all high, dynamic's on medium, AA turned off for now) I get awesome FPS, something around 50 - 90 depending on whats going on, however; I still get really choppy during multi-player. I turned my graphics down and that helped, but its still choppy when flying in the chopper. Since my FPS are so high, and my network should be fine (3megs down), do you think its a memory issue? I'm using Corsair value ram, not the best, but not bad by any means. Do you think 1 gig just isnt enough to keep up with the card and that high of settings? I run fine when i load a single player game, its only multiplayer that this happens. Thanks anyone who answers for your help.

*edit* My old system ran like butter all the way down to 25fps or so, with a gig of ram...so thats why I figured it may be a ram issue, but i wanted to make sure before I jumped into getting more ram.

Go get 3DMark and see how your computer handled the test. If you smoothly run 3DMark then my question is how is BF2 single player? Answer those questions and we can help more..

I run fine when i load a single player game, its only multiplayer that this happens (maybe 1 or 2 hiccups in an entire round, including flying in the chopper).

I'll go get a copy of 3DMark and see what happens. I've heard a ton about that program, but never tried it. The only problem is, i'm at work right now and my computer isnt.

Another gig is defintly advisable for the future but you still get this occasionally on full 64 man servers with the best of systems.

Its more to do with the server and the rate at which the server passes data to the client.

Try playing karkand on a nice server like [PTG] City Maps Only its always nice and smooth and stable...

Then try the stupid 24/7 karakand superserver.co.uk ... its always horribly choppy and people are jerking/chopping/bouncing around all over the place.

Basically you can have the best system in the world but if your on a sh1t server it isnt going to help you

You probablly already know that though so sorry if I sound like im trying to teach my grandma ..etc .etc..

LoL, no that all makes sense. I honestly wasnt sure how much the server had to do with it. But does it make sense that if I turn my graphics down it works a little better (its very odd, but my FPS actually drops a little when I drop my video settings...)? I mean, obviously it should work better...but my FPS are fine at higher settings, so thats whats confusing me. I'll attempt to try some different servers tonight and see what happens.

I have found that it does depend on the server. Great servers experience no to minimal lag at all. Others, its lags like crazy.

My advise is once you find lag-free servers, add them to your favorites and just play those.

I get chopping play all the time because the game does not support dual core does anyone no of a mod or a hack that will make dual core work or dos anyone else have a dual core system with same problem

thats not the reason you could do with 2gb of ram

do this test
turn textures to meduim and see how choppy the gameplay is when i had 1gb it was choppy with textures and everything else on high turned

high textures take another 200mb of ram

thanks for that i thought that i would not need no more ram because its fast ram 667mhz do you think if i add 1gb more that it will make it work nicely.

The reason I was originally curious, is because of my high FPS, but still choppy game. That was the main kicker for me...I'm getting great FPS, but still choppy. WTH? Thats why my guess was that i need more ram

dual cores have nothing to do with it. i have dual cores and run at ultra high settings with no chppiness unless (pay attention) my ping rate goes up. your download speed may be uber but if you cant upload very fast the you will still get lag and high ping, hence the choppiness.

So I loaded the newest possible driver's for my video card last night, and the server I played on, I would only hiccup 2 or 3 times a round, and it wouldnt last long at all. I suppose network connect, or how good the server is was the original cause maybe...who knows

If you're getting lag hiccups intermittently you might try updating punkbuster. Anytime that happens to me it seems to be PB related.
