Bought a CyborgEvo and I still suck

Any advice you can give me on how to learn how to fly choppers and jets using a stick. I have it properly set up, but I just can't get down rolling left and right properly. I'm playing on a local server game with myself as I don't want to **** people off. It seems that I'm not getting the hang of this thing. I try to shoot targets, but just fly out of control. Any advice(general flying, bombing runs for jets,etc) you vets have on learning to fly with a joystick?

I suck with a joystick.... I've been flying choppers lately... with my keyboard and mouse.

What helped me was flying as a gunner with a competent pilot. Helps you get the feel of how a heli should be flown. It really helped me learn how to pilot the chopper. I'm not a great chopper pilot, but I'm getting better. I went 61/9 last night on Leviathan. Not awesome, but it helped win the game.

I'll try my joystick more when I start trying to learn how to fly planes.

Just keep practicing - I spent about 30 hours flying a jet before deciding to get a joystick and it took me several days to get back up to my old standard. You're doing the right thing already, by starting your own server.

Choppers took me much longer to get used to with a joystick, but I also use them much less (in other words I'm a chopper newbie :p)

Practice landing, bombing targets, try and kill APCs with the guns, and fly through/around obstacles untill using the joystick is a second nature

the cyborg evo can be abit loose when flying heli's be gentle with it and u will get alot better response without actually spinning out of control,

planes well, i still havn't got that good with them although the cyborg evo seems to suit flying with them,

just practise.

keyword: don't use a joystick. I trust my keyboard and mouse and can take down AVERAGE pilot easy anyday.

No, I don't fly J10. Now I know that the usual sensitivity of mouse is worse than joystick (one thing that really affect the balance), however you can adjust the mouse sensitivity outside of the game and make it essentially even higher than joystick.

Just practice man. Start a SP Operation Clean Sweap and go for several rounds. It's especially good for practicing bombing. Crack the difficulty up though cause otherwise the other pilot sucks ass. Then you still have to get some more experience in MP against good pilots but you should be able to hold your own in general.

how have you got the stick setup? I just bought a joystick as well , i had it nailed after half an hour , couldn't fly to save my life before , but now i can loop under bridges , swoop under low pipes , and all sorts:laugh: , have you bound the twist action to turn left/right? and push left/right to roll left/right? if you twist left and push left and pull back , and have a button bound to afterburner , you should get a nice sharp turn, also have a button bound on top for changing from bombs to missiles, after that its just practice, i haven't really had change to get into a jet online yet , but i practice dog fighting on operation cleansweep and can take down the bots on the hard lvl quite easily.

a twist joystick is a must set the twists for pitchs turns for turning, using a combo or turn and twist to make movements will make you a better pilot for both helo and jet. helo throttle is important throttling down and up during manuvers will improve them, jets i just fly fast as i can using after burners to escape missles and ither planes...you might want to join a team/ clan ours has a top gun school to teach members how to fly well and a lot of other teams/ clans do to...best of luck

That's actually keywords. And it's also wrong. No way are you taking me down in a dogfight :)



And back to the topic subject: Practice!

If I were to train on stuff I would first go start off with:
1. Hovering and rotating on the spot, to finetune your compensation skills. The lower the better because it's easier to see how much you drift.
2. Flying low and fast. Over and under objects. Tight turns around pillars and houses. To learn how to react accordingly in panic situations.
3. Sidestrafing with the reticule just above the target, to keep yourself mobile while giving your gunner a chance to have fun with the TV-missile aswell.
4. Tricks, like doing loops and rolls. For AA combat. Anything to make the opposite gunner miss.

Check your sensitivity for pitch/roll in your settings for planes. I have mine all they way up at 10, and it works great. I left my chopper pitch/roll settings to something low like 1.5, since they are easier to control that way....
