does anyone know why EA dissallowed the use of half the characters on the keyboard.

Didn't they think that all the clan tags will soon be [...]
cant use - { | \ , . @ ' :; but you can when your making your account name...

I think there's a sticky thread called "how to manually edit your prefix" which explains how to use those characters in it without the standard in-game prefix box.
