How do you manually guide a bomber's laser missle?

Some people say you can manually guide a bomber's tv missile. However after firing there's no TV camera following it to the target, nor does it seem to respond to further mouse clicks. How do you manually guide the bomb in to its target?

Do you fire in the general direction before full lock and hope it locks when it's close to the target?

I think you just move the cursor to where you want it to hit, it follows the cursor in the black and white TV screen, after the missile is out of fuel or has detonated the camera will reset and you can fire again

I don't really know I've never been in an aircraft even in single player

the best bet is to wait for the lock - but if your pilot sucks:

just aim where you want it to go - no clicks necessary

just like a TOW missile or the sort.

Wow i am so glad to see other people dont know how to guide the TV missle. After watching movies clips of guys controlling it with ease, i realized i was doing somthing wrong. So today i loaded up a single player game and started practicing.

Turns out, and please correct me if im wrong, where you initally click on the TV monitor is where the missle will go. Now if you want to readjust where it goes, then you HAVE TO CLICK AGAIN. You will notice there is a little cross that appears where you click. That cross will move to whereever you click.

So the bottom line is that you have to continually point and click to where you want it to go.

You see today when i was practicing, just moving the mouse around to guide it produce erratic control at best. It wasn't until i re-click where i wanted it to go that it acutally started responding correctly??

EDIT: Oh stupid me, you are talking about the bomber and not the heli DOHH my bad. Well i will leave this up to see if anybody corrects me or verifies what i say.

Mr. Troybob is correct. The best you can hope for to be an effective bomber is to have a good pilot. I've taken out choppers and jets with the F-15 TV bombs.
When you fire, take your finger off the fire button if you have a lock. If you are trying for an aircraft, leave the fire button engaged (DONT CLICK!!!)and with the crosshairs on the TV screen just guide it as best you can. It is totally different than the helo missiles so do not do the same thing, it will not work.
It's not the people dont know it's just somethign aquired through trial and error, just like everything else in the game.

If you get a lock and hold down the button it might just spontaneously go for another target suddently, no warning for him :p.

TV Missles are hard to control, really. Especially if the pilot isn't trying to get you a clear shot.

As soon as you fire the missile your pilot will pull up straight into the sky so you have to wait forever to launch another one.

you guys are getting everything mixed up.

TV guided missles are on the attack choppers. To guide them, you click, and then click again... and each click, changes its flight path.

the ones on the jets, are laser-guided missles. To aim them manually, the pilot has to be going straight pretty much and towards the target for you to be able to hit the target manually. If they are, just click and hold the reticule directly over the target (you are going to have to follow the target because the jet is moving.. this is alot harder than it seems). you can't just really hit targets manually... you still need a good pilot, because for it to be accurate, you need to be heading at least 35 degrees or so towards the target. This is useful for taking out UAV, sattelites, essex's, ground troops (like on the carrier).... etc. but for tanks and that... just lock-on.

oh, and when locking on and shooting, something i found... you need to keep the reticule directly on the locked vehicle all the way until impact.. I found that if you take it off, it will lose the lock, and then obviously go off course.

no we're not getting it all mixed up. Although they are laser guided, you are still able guide while not locked by looking. Create a local game to yourself and try it.

At one time (in beta) you had to have a laser designator on a target for lock to occur, but they took that out because it required teamwork. You're reticle is the laser designator until the lock can occur.

                    we good now?

bro... im not sayin you need to be going straight on. im just saying, the pilot cant be going 1,000mph and parallel to the object you are trying to hit...

he needs to be facing it and heading towards it (not exact... just in the "general direction" so that you can see the target for more than 1 second... lmfao)

I thought that's what you were trying to say - but it also sound like it's impossible unless the complete angle is 35 degrees, which is only 17 degrees each axis.

The relationship of of heading and position is non-existant at some high ranges. The pilot could be keeping the nose level but you could still have a high angle of negative attack (IE - you could hit something below you farthur than 35 degrees since the camera dips that low and starts the missile on that trajectory).

So although you are correct, the rules change when you shoot right below you. Also - there is no inherent velocity, as it acts like a tow. The reverse would be the chain-gun on the BH, which does inherit the velocity of the ship into the projectile velocity, requiring compensation.

The bomber AGM's start from a fixed position - much like the missiles on the heli (gunner) start at 0mph at launch, yet the pilot controlled missiles start from the heading and velocity of the ship and accelerate based on that start speed. Also like the Hellfires on the DC apache in my sig, they will hit where you point. The hyrda rocket would inherit, the hellfires would not.

Hmmm interesting. The map was Daqing oil fields. A lot of times the vehicles are too close to you and by the time it locks, the vehicle is under the plane and the missile can't hit it. That's why I thought maybe manual guiding would be better. But even then it sounds like you need to keep the target in the bomber view sight, which seems very hard to do with him veering off all the time.

sounds like your pilot didn't make long runs. as a pilot i always put a target under my nose. Since the gunner uses my nose as a point of reference, he checks there often - and he'll quickly see the enemy that i see.

then it's just a matter of giving him as much time as possible without duress to the jet.

You tell 'em Troybob, Sheeeet! For the record in addition to what is being said, yes that is a correct observation that the helos have TV guided missiles. In the game, for all intents and purposes you can guide them while viewing the target via the missile itself. The jet missiles are laser guided, and can be guided to some extent, though you are not looking from the missiles perspective. Instead you are looking through the camera view which initially gave you the visual target.
