That ABR is getting foot on ground in the Battlefield Community was confirmed when we received info on a very special exception regarding Punkbuster.
As we from ABR do not condone Modification on the BF2 Executable, there are a few people who did changed their executables.
As this modification was not for cheating, the purpose is to get BF2 and ABR properly working on connections with a poorly configured transparant proxy.
It seemed that the BF2 community in Chili was using a modified Executable, which ended up in Punkbuster Bans.
Since 7 April Punkbuster Ban's people who are using a Modified Executable as requested by EA.
But the Modification, made by the chilean community didnt had anything to do with Cheats or Cracks.
the modification allowed gamers to use ABR when their provider wouldnt let them.
The problem that they are expiriencing with ABR is network related, and the providers in that area didnt want to cooperate.
Eventually, the chilean community contacted punkbuster about the issue.and after quite some emails, PBstaff Stuart Dunsmore, handled the issue and contacted EA, and if this issue could be solved.
As the modification is no Threat to EA or the Gaming community EA and Punkbuster allowed this 'unusual' modification.
The Modification allows to play on the ABR Public ranked world, without changing your HOSTS file or using the ABR Client.
With the release of a few ABR enabled mod's the future changes of the executable will be submitted to Punkbuster.
After all it seems, that if you talk about things, EA is actually helping out the community!
