This is a little long, but necessary in my opinion.
I find it difficult to believe, that almost ten months since its release, a majority, yes, I said a majority of players, do not realize what's needed to win a map.
Take Strike at Karkand for example (SAK). (Those who hate or do not play SAK need not reply to this thread) It simply amazes me that so many people believe that the key to winning this map is to capture and fight around Hotel for the entire round. This is more for the US, but it applies to both. Yes, there are some people who try to capture the MEC main as US, or defend it as MEC, but a majority do not.
The first thing to do as US, is to GET ACROSS THE RIVER! On either the 64 or 32 player version, capturing the MEC main and holding it is one of the most important keys to this map. Why? Simple. You see all those threads about how commander mode sucks, it should have the option of not having it, etc? Taking the MEC main as US, eliminates their Arty/UAV/Scan. (of course you have to have someone spawn as Specops to destroy them, but that's a whole different thread) No more pesky artillery raining down on you while you're capping a flag. Second, you now get another tank, and they have NONE!
I can't tell you how many times I have raced across the river to the east side of the map (you know, the area most never go to?) and start turning a flag. I use my commo rose to call out many times, "need help over here!" etc. I also type in all caps "SPAWN ON 3 (or whatever squad I'm in). Once in a blue moon, I actually get someone to spawn with me.
It's much easier on the 64 version to cap warehouse, where you cannot be arty'd. If I can successfully cap it by myself, I try to race around to another flag to cap it. Still requesting assistance, and typing SPAWN ON #.
As I am sitting there waiting for the flag to s l o w l y lower, I look at the minimap and am amazed at how many of the team is STILL AT/AROUND HOTEL!
This is designed to help people who might not be familiar with the game since they may have just started playing it.
If you ever see a spawn point on the east side of the river, by all means SPAWN THERE! Dividing the enemy so that they now have to fight on 2 fronts makes them weaker. Ever heard of divide and conquer?
Hopefully you can cap and hold the warehouse, as it can be defended fairly easily, and you cannot die from arty inside it. I've seen commanders rain 10 strikes in a row, and never get a kill with it...
I've even seen where the US has penetrated the east side of the river, and there are still a dozen MEC around hotel, looking in the direction of the US main. I bet they sit there and say, "Look at us, we are so tough, they are afraid to even come towards us any longer"
So, in closing, the Hotel is not the key to winning Karkand. One of the most important things to do is get at least one base on their side. That makes your chances of winning better.
There are keys to winning each map, but taking and holding (cappable of course) their main, can never be a bad thing. One more quick example, Kubra dam. If you can capture and hold the MEC main, you now have their armor, and they no longer have their fighter or bomber to use against you.
Think about it next time...
