Ive read about 350 posts...PLEASE HELP ME!!

I've recently installed a Creative xfi xtreme sound card and am having a problem with my voip. I've read a LOT of posts but can't see anyone else with the same problem.

I start a game and my voip is working fine but after 10 minutes or so the green "talk" icon on the right of the screen starts flickering as I hold it down as if I'm tapping the b button. Consequently my voice starts breaking up.

Xfire works fine and all of my settings and levels are fine.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling my sound drivers and Remapping my talk (b) key.

Also I deleted my BF2 profile so that when I entered the game it would redo all of the settings, it recognised my gfx card and put the settings to high (even though I bring them back down to medium) but it put my audio settings to software/medium.

Does the BF2 programme automatically set your sound options in the same way it does your video ones?

I'm now going to try disabling EAX but shouldn't it be fine with my new sound card??

Please, ANY ideas would be xtremely appreciated (I can still joke even though really I'm crying inside.....)

    Disabled it...Just the same

    Is it worth uninstalling/reinstalling??

I've now uninstalled/reinstalled all BF2 programmes but still have the same problem...The VOIP works fine for 10/15 mins then the green talk icon flickers when I hold it down.

I've read somewhere that you can run the ingame sound via creative rather than BF2 software, anyone know abouy this??

Please any help from anyone is very appreciated :)

You must go to the creative update page and update your x-fi drivers.
        did you do this?
the drivers on the installation CD are outdated and buggy.

I tried to update the drivers through the windows device manager but it said I had the latest versions, so I figured it was ok...

I will download the latest drivers fom Creative and hopefully(please,please...) this will make a difference

Thank you ever so much, I will let you know how it goes (I'm away for a couple of days so I will do it when i get back)

          Thanks again : )

You're welcome. Hope you get it working. I have the same card and it makes BF2 a whole new world - audio experience-wiese.
Just do the auto update at the creative support page.
Not much that can go wrong :)

If you haven't done the update yet, you can be pretty sure that this should fix your problem.
BF2 will not work correctly with the old driver version.

              Nooooo!!!!

Installed new drivers voip worked for about 30 minutes then the green talk icon started flickering when I held it down again...

I've allready uninstalled/reinstalled the sound drivers and BF2/Special Forces but think I might start everything from scratch.

Can anyone give me a good idea as to the exact order I should do everything in and also any other Ideas or Advice??

(ANY ideas would be VERY appreciated, this is really driving me mad...)

              Thanks

This sounds to me like what happens when you use AC'97 onboard audio.
Make sure all of your old sound drivers are uninstalled, restart, then install and update your X-FI card.

                  Thanks for the advice,

I did have ac97 onboard sound but I removed the driver for it before putting in the xfi.

The problem I have isnt the one where the voip actually turns itself off, it just seems to break up and the talk icon flickers...

There is something I've heard about changing the open al drivers from the BF2ones to the creative ones does anyone know anything about this??

                  Or Any ideas?

Or just map the talk button to a different key

99.9% sure its not the keyboard, It does exactly the same when I remap to another key.

I've also got a voip (b) button mapped to my jotstick and it does the same with that aswell.

I've just been playing and I've discovered that once the voip starts messing up when I change level it is ok again, 10 minutes later and it starts to go wrong...

Did you disable the on-board sound via BIOS? I'd make sure it was done through bios, instead of just removing the driver.

I tried to update the drivers through the windows device manager but it said I had the latest versions, so I figured it was ok...
Never trust windows on devices like this - always go to the mfg's page and d/l - install the latest drivers.

I have my record threshhold at 1% in BF2 VOIP settings. maybe that helps.

That sound icon flickering happened to me when I had the sensitivity above 1%.
Try that if everything else fails.

Mic works ok in other applications? If you test the mic in the creative console launcher does it work alright?

Turned the onboard sound off in the bios but that was after I installed the new sound drivers, so that may be a problem, not sure...

                              Mics fine in everything else...

Will try lowering the mic threshold to 1% (Its good to know someone else has had the same prob!)

I am going to try again now with the lower mic threshold, if that doesnt work I'm going to uninstall and reinstall everything(BF2/Special forces/Sound Drivers)

Is there a preferable order to do this in i.e. install game first then drivers or the other way around??

Also, I have heard something about setting the audio options once game is installed and AFTER that applying the patch, anyone Know about this??

                              Thanks again Guys :)

Put mic down to 1%, same problem.

If I cntrl/alt/delete and wait a couple of mins Its OK again for a while, does that make sense to anyone??

And can anyone help me with my above questions??
