Yes it does... I have DSL adn there is a maximum lenght that that phone cord should be. So follow here, if you have say 100feet from your walphoen outlet, do not buy a 90 foot phone cord and a 10 foot ethernet cable. You should get a 6 foot phone cord and a 100 foot ethernet cable.

Signals will travel further and stay intact longer over an ethernet cable compared to an phone line cord.

I had intermittent connection problems and they stopped when I changed to a longer Cat 5 ethernet cable as stated above.

You phone cable can affect your internet speed, but this depends on how long it is.

As long as your phone cable isn't to long (10-15m) and you are connected to your master socket then you will get the best internet speed you line is capable of.

You should also take note that your internet speed is affected by how far away you are from your local exchange.

under 1 kilometre will give you speeds of up to 4-6mbps
up to 3 kilometres will give you speeds of up to 1-2mbps
and up to and over 5 kilometres will give you speeds of 512kbps.

Edit: just a note McBain35, cat5 cables are not affected as much by distance however if you do use long distances for cat5 cables (and im talkin from one side to another side of a comercial building) you can power the cat5 cable to boost the signal (also good for powering voip phones)

I got a very very long wire/cable from the modem to the phone socket...its only like 4-5 feet away..should i change it?

a 4-5 foot phone cable is fine, if you need it any longer use a cat5 cable from your modem to your computer.

i mean....i have a very very long cable...and the space between the modem and the socket is not far...i can even touch the socket while sitting on my computer chair...

I would go and buy a smaller cable, it shouldnt cost much and if your phone cable is over 20-30 feet then it should defenetly improve the speed a little.

is you have DSL..u HAVE to have the cord 14 feet or LESS...or youll drop connection and have slow throughput...believe me i know..i work for verizon

That's also why I mentioned that you should have you modem connected to your master socket (the main phone line socked which is normally opposite the cable that's outside your house.) Otherwise you already have a 30 foot cable going around your house to the other phone socket.
