Questions for expirienced snipers

Hi folks :)

well I like to play sniper but unfortunatelly I have some problems with it so I decided to tell you my terrible problems and maybe here will be some kind person to give me some advices :)

I searched some threads about sniping but to be honest could not see any text that make me to say: "That's it! I found it!" :)

To clear things about situation:
a) I want veteran sniper badge but I cant get it because I cant get 20 kills (I thought that there is 15 but I got 15 twice and no badge, then I found out on one site that to get it here must be 20 kills but not 15), so most of my grief is because of that.
b) I playing as "lonely wolf" because... I have no bloody idea how to play in team especially sniper with unknown people without some serious pre-made team's tactic :) (just run with them and shooting randomlly people is rediculous IMHO)
c) unfortunatelly my ping is mostly 250-500 ms
d) I didn't play first person action shooters because I dont like them (this is first one that I like). So I dont have some serious expirience on this matter (but I like stealth games and that's why I like sniper )
e) I started to play in BF2 but then turned to SF so maybe something in my texts will look wierd because at beginning i played almost only BF2 but then almost only SF.


1. First of all - I can kill any moving target only by blind luck. So logically I need that my targets stand for a moment still at least second to mark into his head and wait for red tag shoving above him (without that tag accurasy for me lower seriouslly - I missed to hit one guy in head when I can hit head 5 times smaller when that tag shows up). But problem is that enemies usually dont wait still to get shot, they are so rude that they moves most of time. So how it is possible to locate unmoving 20 targets in about 20-25 minutes (time till turn ends)?

2. When here are some sort of front line things are good, I can get kills often enough... but mostly after couple first minutes people spreads around map and there is many small fights with couple guys in each (minus those who are in armor and air and so unreachable for me). So I need to go search for targets but in those cases there are high possibility that we run into each other but in close combat my pistol is not enough against assault rifle or shotgun. But when I choose some position and wait for enemy to came I get small quatity of kills because from those who came I can only shoot stationary targets (as I said previous) and if I will shoot all the time I will reveal my position.
So again how I can find 20 unmoving targets in about 20-25 mins
and
How sniper should behave when little fightings spread all around map.

3. Eventually I could get those 20 kills but tickets disapear to fast because 200-300 tickets for 64 people is not much if they are active and kill each other fast. But those 20-25 minutes for me is not enough at least on this moment because I cant charge enemies with sniper rifle as I can with assault rifle, so logically I am slower.

4. Is here any reason to try hide in SF in grass or bushes - (unlike in BF2) in SF there are no mask suit for sniper, so I assume enemies will see me in easelly?

well... any advices will be apreciated.

P.S. To be honest for now from what I saw I start to think that sniper in BF2 is not like sniper who hides and hunts on enemies but more like just guy with rifle and claymores, who runs around, places nasty surprises and shooting enemies when here are battle long enough to keep them in prone position for some time while they are shooting at your team mates.
And I start to think about getting that damn badget in "cheating" way - on tank

Right, well.
The problem you have with moving targets I beleive is linked to the problem of being a lone wolf. I have found that instead of sneaking around the edges of the map looking for unsuspecting enemies, try and get down to the battle. When I am closer, moving headshots are much easier and there is less room for error. Give it a go.

When the fighting spread around the map, this is your chance to get some flag caps with your squad...so try and formulate a plan, and if you arn't squad leader kepp asking for new orders (makes them feel special ).

If you need to, go one thses 'high point' servers, although i've never tryed it myself. Basically it's like 16 players on a 64 player map (personally i find this too boring).

a) if youre uncertain of getting a headshot i tend to just wound them that way i can get kill assists,

b)snipers in squads are well usually for just finding a somewhere high and spotting for your squad, taking out other snipers that are planted around

c)250-500ms geez... you on dial-up or something ( better connection would help trying to get a steady shot)

d) gah play some there are good ones out now adays :p

1) i think with all sniper rifles you hav to adjust your shot just aiming above them or upto an inch in some cases

2) be efficiant with all the sniper kits weapons, claymores descreet killers, nades for a small group, and theres the silenced pistol great for short range sniping and close range too

3) you need to find a good map to snipe on the maps with cranes are a good place to start,

I dont personally like to do this, but while using the M95 shoot them in the chest where it is easy to hit them and then take your pistol right away and start shooting. Usually 1 pistol shot will take them down for this, and keep in mind this also gets you your pistol badge (this is how i got my veteran and I wasnt even trying for it).

Also I toned my mouse sensitivity down for sniping, but thats just me.

I dont really find hiding in bushes really effective, so try to get up against a wall in a corner or something and back up completly so your legs go in and they will have a harder time finding you, esp. if their lighting is on high or medium.

Go for your badge on Karkand and hang around the hill that USMC spawns on and snipe from there. If hotel is taken then go to square, becuase I rarely see a public server split up. They will move in the order that bases are capped so just follow the crowd.

A sniper tip that works for me is once you have shot at them keep the mouse held down until you see the hit mark. I think this increases accuracy (dont worry some1 else will correct me if im wrong ) and this also tells you wether or not to bring out your pistol and start shooting. If you havent hit them, then try again.

Hi Peter and WELCOME to the forums!!! :)
That is an excellent post I might add, you ask a question that many experienced players wonder about at some point. I'll try and give you some advice, bear with me:

1.) To hit a moving target while sniping or with anything else you must "lead" the target. You have to follow with your crosshairs at the same speed the target is moving, only you must aim slightly ahead of it. When firing, relax, dont get all tense and freak out. Take your time breathe and click. It takes practice that is certain, there is not such thing as a chortcut in this of all kits.

2.) Start a squad called simply "SNIPERS", that will let the commander and other team members what you are ultimately doing and prevent awkwardness. Follow the small fights you see and pick your shots, help out by damaging the enemy as much as possible if not killing them outright. Use your claymores, you should never die with your claymores as a sniper, that is the biggest rule of thumb.

3.) Use your pistol for rapid fire action on troops that you have already wounded. It is all about getting creative and staying alive in a pinch. THis goes for any server size.

4.) True that a ghillie suit helps in rural areas, but stealth is the name of the game. Don't be running around trying to take people on one of one. You will die quickly. You cannot really blend in, but you can tak your shot, get the kill and hide. Once you make a kill or 2, try moving to another spot. Enemies can hear where the shot came from and they the target respawns they usually have a good idea where the shot came from. Leave a claymore where you were hiding for an extra surprise.

Using the sniper kit is what you make of it. You can hunt your enemies and be stealthy about it, but you have to be mobile and think on your feet. Hope this helps a little at least, Good Luck and have fun!

Same as peter i am rubbish at sniper shots, I can get a few headshots now and again if there still , but occasionally i get the running targets killed, I dont really like the kill assits because there not a kill it just looks scruffy if you know what i mean your a sniper, your meant to get kills. I am troubled with the sniper i also need help lol but its mostly because of my ram and graphics sometime i lag, 2x512ddr ram dual channel ati radieon 9550

But one time i headshotted this guy so many times i nearly ran out of clip trying to headshot headshot, eventully it worked? but only because i raised the scope up a bit, Dam bullet drop, anymore tips ? sorry dont want to intrigue on your post , sorry

Yeah but wheres the sense of acheivment in that lol? Besides it's not that hard;
SVD + Claymores + Karkand = 20+ kills all the time if you stick to it. Try it. Don't place yourself too far though, it's not an actual 'sniper' more of a 'squad marksmen' weapon but it does the job well.

Do something about that ping too, why is it always +250?

Well... because i live in easter Europe and in times of USSR that fat guys who sit in Kremlin thought that common people should not know too much about life in other countries and so Internet was not estabilished till crush of USSR, then as usual came times that could be called as "trouble times" and people have more urgent matter than internet.
So for know there are more and more people with internet BUT QUALITY of it... is bad. In countries border it is OK, but for servers who is on ther side of Europe - like UK for example it is too high :-/ (On USA server I simply don't go because clear as plain day that ping will be even worse).

So in brief words - doubtfully that there is something that I can do about that damn ping.

Only thing i can say is that if youre unfortunate enough to be at close range with a fully automatic enemyor two, shoot them once in an easy area to hit like the chest; even when moving this is relatively easy, then whip out your pistol and one shot will kill them, so it is a very easy and effective way to kill close range enemies. I did this on Oman yesterday under a train, one guy runs towards me, i shoot him in chest with M95, then bring out my pistoland spray him, he goes down and a medic comes to revive him, i do the same to the medic. I guess i should have moved though cos one of the guys came and hunted me down SO MOVE IF THEY SEE YOU!!

The lag won't help but is not terminal...u just need to "discover" the correct lead distance, if they start zig-zagging then choose another target. I got my veteran sniper while in a tank which aint that hard...so that is the easiest option imo

If you have trouble with moving targets, get up closish with the M95. Shoot the once in the body, then once with the pistol. This will take down ANY enemy.

Join/make a squad called "Sniper" and use VoIp to work out where the enemy is.

I got Veteran Sniper on Sharqi with my L96 -- sniping noobs in the TV station (they just kept coming back!).
