long story shorter, i was born and raised on battlefield 1942. i was super uber sniper. i played enough to get to know each map, how each team reacted on each map, and what practice was needed was had. i could perform equally well on every map i can think of. i would plop myself down in a good, hard to see, vantage point above an enemy spawn point, and usually get anywhere from 5-15 kills (for those of you heretics that didnt play 1942, the sniper kits had only 15 rounds, and no mobile resupply), before i died. as you can expect, i would be getting upwards of 30 kills in a good round (when myself and the game were in their prime), with few deaths. over the years i havent played much 1942, although i recently installed it to find 2 full sized servers, and 20 occupied DC servers, and the other games i've played i've usually had the same success. in BF:V, though it really doesnt work anymore, the jungle-ness basically made it so i could rape anyone and anything.
when i downloaded the bf2 demo, i found i could do the same rapage in the 16player sized Oman map (with 32 people usually). i'd usmc whore and sit at the train tracks, pretty much holding of the west side of all approaching infantry until a lucky nade or arty killed me.
but why, gods of bf2, why do i suck so badly when i play the only popular map, karkand, why cant i really kill anyone? no matter what happens, i just suck nuts with the sniper rifle...i cant get into good positions, when i do i die, i cant hit fast moving targets, at any range, and it seems bullet speed is way slower than it should be.
as any sniper who plays any game knows, location location location. good spot is the difference between 40:5, and 5:40. in karkand, (and all the other maps i've played since i finally got bf2 patches to work, besides small oman ofc), i cant seem to find good locations, and it seems that when i do, the tide of battle shifts, and i have to risk getting killed by everything to relocate. then i can assume, maybe this map (and game), isnt so much well designed for uber sniping, but then i see mr hotshot there, with 20 kills more than everyone else, who played sniper the whole round
can someone please either help me directly, or direct me to a decent, full blown guide on sniping in bf2? or at least explain to me why i cant hit anything.
