    Not another BF 2142 thread...

Ah, I think I will get flamed for bring this up again. But seriously how cheap did EA/Dice get? While the progression of the series follows with the release of a futuristic Battlefield game I would at least expect it to be a new game engine. Not even talking about the fact that BF2 has not really run it's full course yet itself, having been out for less then a year in total.

I mean looking at the video it's perfectly clear that as it stands there is seemingly no new technology behind the game. So basically what we will get is a heavily modified version of BF2, which instead of our favoured M1A1 tanks and Ak47s will instead give way to Mechs and futuristic plasma rifles or something. The textures... the models... they look low par when put against something like Quake Wars. If you don't believe me, go to Gametrailers.com and watch a HD version of the trailer. I calls it how i sees it, and I see poor world textures, mediocre models, and cheap flat effects... sure the mechs look okay... but compared to say the Shadowcat from FASA mech universe its really nothing THAT exceptional.

Currently the BF2 engine is still not 100% reliable, featuring bugs and other things that after so long are still not fixed. Are we going to get the same type of crappy half built game? I think so. It seems so fervently rushed, I mean lets be real here... they warp up BF2, then say take a month off, then a month later start working on 2142. And now it's slated to come Fall 2006, it will be delayed. If it's not I'll eat my own hat. Because I can't see anyway the game will be feature ready. Or it will be, and EA will screw us over by making us pay for stripes of the game in the same way we had to get the EU booster pack... the game will be minimalistic, and the good bits we will have to purcahse bit by bit over an extended period of time. The switch to episodic content across the industry seems to support this idea.

And further more... How many of us actually enjoy the BF series for the fact that it's setting is semi realistic. That we get to experience a cinematic recreation of World War 2, Vietnam or Mordern Combat? How do you create a franchise setting and original IP that can captivate as well as those set in the real world? I mean Sci-fi settings are great... but look at movies... it ranges from something great like Aliens to garbage like... *gulp* Battlefield Earth...

Come on the Doom 3 engine is more solid and more refined. And it looks a thousand times better then the current BF2 engine.

I agree with everything you just said but this type of action was expected of EA. Since they're a large corporation I'm not surprised they resorted to this marketing ploy. Nice post.

i have a lil' theory... gotta tell it to some1...
maybe before battlefield 2 was planned, battlefeidl 2142 was in the works... maybe they just rushed bf2 because of the popular mod "Desert Combat"

            I think this as well.

I suspect highly that QW and Bf2142 were conceived at about the same time, just that, one was advertised much earlier than the other.

until doom III engine can create a multiplay environment with multiple vehicles and large outdoor areas, I am not convinced.

yes, games like HL2 and quake 4 has vehicle in single player, but in multiplayer vehicles lags so much it's unplayable.

I have my faith in the battlefield engine.
