I really hated my dud 7800 gtx 256mb that could not even do 500/1300 without artifacting so i bit the bullet again and got a 7900 GTX 690/1750. Last 7900 GTX i got was defective but this one seems ok.
Yet i still get damned 25 fps sometimes on a crowded 64 player map. I played great wall on a 64 player server and fps was fine but it dipped down to 25!. I do get high fps when there is nothing going on but dipping down to 25 is just pathetic. huh is wrong with bf2? I play on 1280x1024 alll high 4xAA 8xAF. Also in warlord palace, fps dies. I at least expected the 7900 GTX to do better than my old 7800 GTX 256mb but it is not.
Can you ppl please post your specs if your fps never goes under 40 no matter what the situation? Only post if you play at 1280x1024 or higher with all settings at high with AA and AF. I really think the reason why bf2 gets bad fps is because the 7000 polygons on the soldiers. It is POSSIBLe for the bf2 soldiers to be 3000-4000 polygons without sacrificing visual quality. I bet we all get a massive fps boost if DICE reduced the number of polygons on the soldier models.
I mean i saw a mod that had a way more detailed soldier than bf2 one and it only had like 4800 polys. check it out here. I wonder how bf2 will run if DICE took the time to reduce the number of polys on the soldiers. I really think that fps is correlated to amount of soldiers on screen. When there is less soldiers, i get good fps but when there are a bunch of ppl in a place like warlord palace, fps dies.
