I can't Patch it...EVER!! (1.22)

so i've tried patching this game all over in all different kinds of ways with all the different patches at different points in time, downloaded from different sources, etc.

it never works


so i downloaded the full 1.22 patch (from totalbf2.com), (i've been playing retail stock), and i started to run it. it opens the patching program (the grey window with two progress bars, as apposed to the normal installer), and it gets to objects_client.zip (about 9% through the whole thing), and this file takes forever (1% ever ~5min) so i go away to watch tv or something. I come back later, and it's at 12% (progress of the object_client.zip file, total progress still at 9%), and then i go away again, and when i come back, it just has an error window now that says patching failed, which i click the button of affirmation, and it goes to the "finish" page of the installer, which i close.

then BF2, wont even run, and once i uninstall/reinstall, it works again.

So i download the patch from a different place (the main EA site for BF2), and the exact same thing happens, and once i reinstall it, it works for the stock version. should i try downloading it again? or is there something else wrong with it?

Try uninstalling manually, including registry settings, then reinstall. Instructions here:

Make sure to have enough space available on your hard drive. The drive that has your Program Files folder, usually the same as the one Windows is installed on, must have roughly 3GB free space, even if installing BF2 on other drive.

Does your Windows account login name have eny unusual letters in it?

If so try moving My Documents folder to different place. Right-click on My Documents and select Properties then click Move. Find a place for it that isn't inside your C:\Documents & Settings\YOURWINDOWSUSERDNAME\...

Alternatively try creating a new Windows account with Administrator privileges, with no special letters, and install and play from there.

well first of all, i did that manual uninstall the first time i uninstalled it, and it still didnt work, and my user name is just my first name (no spaces or whatever, accents, none of that). and if it matters, i'm using Mozilla Firefox to download, and im pretty sure i have a firewall on my router that i donno how to disable, and when i downloaded it, i disabled everything, using task manager, besides explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe under my user name.

is there a good place that i should download the full 1.22 patch, or is there a way to download in safe mode?

It should matter if you download with FF.

You can press F8 continiously just before, the Windows boot log appears, and then select Safe Mode with networking.

But it shoudn't matter in which mode you download it. You can however try installing the patch in "regular" Safe Mode, it has worked for others.

Did you try creating another Windows accounts?? It won't hurt to give it a go.

ok i created a new account (bob), and i can access IE from the other logins, so i'll put the downloaded patch into shared folder, then i'll install BF2 on bob (clear up another couple gigs), and then try the patch.

Windows Control Panel -> User Accounts. Create a new user, make sure it is a Administrator, and not limited.
Make sure to gve it a password. Also if your current windows accoutns doesn't have a password give it one or try changing it, as patch probably uses information like that to encrypt BF2 CD-key.

Also try patching from Safe Mode. Downloading from Safe Mode shouldn't matter IMO, just make sure that the 1.22 patch has the correct size when downloaded, as listed at download sites.

ok well i edited my last post and i created another login name (bob), but it didnt have a password...and i did install the game, but not the patch...should i reinstall after i put in a password?

and how do i get to safe mode again? i forget what i have to put into Run.

ok it worked in safe mode...or under the new login name...but i assume its the former. im too lazy to test it....but im happy
