Ok, I have 2GB Corsair PC3200 XMS ram, I went out and wanted to buy another 1gig. The store was out of this on but thad the pro series. Same everything just the difference is the pro has LED lights on it. So I it should work. I installed it. I put it behind the other 2gigs. Booted up and windows says I still only have 2gigs of ram. So I shut down the PC, Moved the new one to the front slot and put the other 2 behind, re-started windows. Its STILL says I have 2gigs. Is there somewhere I am messing to adjust something in windows? Because If the pro series was interfering windows would say I have only 1gig right? Anyhelp would be great. Thanks

No I have not tried the stick only, guess I do that now.
Ok, did that, and got 1gig that I thought, Then I tried something else, I put the Corsair in the order, XMS|XMX Pro Series|XMS. Didnt work, still only reading 2gigs. Guess I need to take this **** back, and get the EXACT XMS model, Thought it would work since it is a PC3200 400DDR and same brand. Strange. Unless someone else has a idea I can try.
Here is the thing that is really confusing me, If this ram was not working right with the other, then why is it only picking up 1 of the 2 XMS?. If the XMS pro didn't work with the XMS then it would say I only have 1gig right?Comment

you really only need 2GB and thats if you want to play BF2 on high lol. plus witih 3 you go out of dual channel I believe. I dont know why its not working, could be because of it being a different type, different timings (but it would just clock the other ones to the slowest timing), lame motherboard...Comment

Check your motherboard documentation. You might be limited to a certain # of sticks that are double sided or single sided. Its possible your maxing out.Comment

The people suggesting that you don't need 3gb of ram don't mean that "two is good enough", as in three would be better but it's just not worth it. What they mean is that you WILL NOT USE the third stick even if it's recognized. If I thought that was possible, then I'd get a third or fourth stick myself. I don't care how much money my computer costs. I thought of doing this myself but a third stick will never be accessed unless you're doing high def image or movie editing, in which case you'd be using a thousand dollar videocard that is great for editing but would stutter on games.Comment

It depends what he is using his computer for, I could easily chew up 3,4,5,6 GB of RAM no problem.
I don't know if MSI boards are different from ASUS but ASUS boards had two sets of ram slots, 2 blue & 2 black (A & B on each) make sure the two identical RAM sticks are on the same pair of slots and place the third (new) stick in slot A of the second pair of slots. If that doesn't work put the new stick of RAM in slot B of the pair of RAM slots.

Ok, I fig. out the problem. Would have saved me time and trouble if I would have read my Mobo manual. It only supports 2 double sided DDR400 at one time. It will support 4 double sided DDR333. So I am guessing I will have to get 2 512MB sticks, and the most ram I will be able to have is 3gigs. I am probably not going to try it, I am happy with the 2gigs, just thought what the hell and why not get another gig. Thanks for your all input and advice.Comment

Thats kind of crap, I know if you want Dual Chanel you need two identical RAM sticks but you should at lead be ably to use three sticks of RAM without Dual Channel.Comment
