Should I buy a widescreen monitor?

Hi all,

I am considering upgrading my 19" CRT monitor for gaming (specifically BF2). I understand that there are some problems running in widescreen (circles looking like ovals, and the screen being cut off on the top and bottom), so my question is if it is the right time to buy a widescreen display if the primary game I am playing is BF2.

My current monitor does 1280x960 @ 100hz and the widescreen lcd I am considering is a Viewsonic that does 1440x960 @ 60hz.

My system is the following:

Athlon 64 3700+
Antec 500w Smartpower supply
eVga 7900 GT CO SC
2GB Corsair Valueram
Sblive 5.1
eVga nf41 SLI motherboard

bf2 doesnt support it, some games do, some dont.

I play battlefield 2 on my dell 2005fpw 20 inch wide screen....I edited the short cut to have the game expand into wide aspect...no problems...

only if the game actually supported the wide screen res like 1280x768 ..but other than that it fits on wide screen with modified shortcut.

looks good yes, but after awhile i find them anoying. Im sticking with my 17 inch 4ms viewsonic!

This "shortcut" thingy, what is that and how do I get to it?

I have the same monitor as the person who started this topic. What can I set the ingame resolution to? or do I need to just do the shortcut thingy?

I saw a computer set up at this store, it had Bf2 running fine in a widescreen...speakers sucked though

I dont know what the hell you guy's are talking about, Bf2 does support widescreen lcd's and i got pictures to prove it dude if you want a widescreen get one they are really good!
BF2 also supports the Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW witch is a 24inch widescreen lcd.

the dell 3007WFP is not exacly a widescreen but it prooves my point...

Check out your minimap. It is an oval when it should be a circle. That is what I am concerned about when deciding on getting a widescreen. I don't understand why games can't natively support it.
