well I've been looking at getting a laptop, mainly just for the usual bs, productivity and perhaps some gaming. I really wanted to go with dual core and maybe the 15" screen for mobility and to save $$ over the 17". I didnt want to spend a ton of money and even though this is a dell its nicely equipted:

2.0ghz dual cores
1gig dual channel @ 533mhz
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory

upgraded to the 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Battery.

I was almost set on that and now I see this special config:

Pentium M 760 2Ghz
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
60GB (7200rpm) hdd
dvd-rw

Geforce Go 7800GTX
Intel 802.11g wireless


this sux, I really was looking forward to dual-cores, but a 7800GTX card would kick ass! the only drawback of the E1505 is the weak x1400 card. other than that the E1505 is a pretty decent powerhouse.

thoughts?

There is no way you need a dual core laptop. Get the XPS M170.

second one, though the mobility 7800 isnt as good as the non mobility, it is still better than the x1400. no need for dual core. pentium m's are great.

does anyone even put non-mobility cards in oem laptops? Ive never heard of that.

no, but Im just saying as a fact, the mobility version isnt as good as the non one. just to help crush his dreams I guess. because ive never seen a non-mobile one in a laptop either.

well, firstly, your laptop has to be upgradebale and be able to upgrade to that card. almost none are. then it has to fit and all this crap. contact your manufacterer about it, trust me.



yeah signa, watchout I heard Minesweeper is a system hog. I would go for 2GB ram, a mobility 7900 and like a dual core opteron.

some laptops are, but those are few and far between. Make sure you love the specs of the laptop before you purchase it, about the only thing you can do is increase the RAM, and even then, you normally can't increase it by much.

Dual core on a laptop is really stupid. Those core duo chips are just good for desktops since they're Conroe's little sister.
