Overclocking problem

Alright i've read virtually every overclocking guide whatever but doesnt give the answer what i need.... the problem is my pc just locks up when i clock my core to 591 mhz...the temperature is stressed 43 C.... my pc just locks up.... but it doesnt get hotter than 43 under any kind of stress... the ram gets around that temperature aswel.... just a bad overclockable card or something else....

I dont have experience with that particular card, but temperature is only part of the equation.

Eventually a chip will hit a wall, even if the temps are within acceptable levels there is a magic wall out there where no amount of cooling or voltage can help you overcome.

If you have tried extra voltage, and extra cooling and have been thoroughly testing, then you will find your maximum speed and be forced to run below that. For instance my 7800GT maxes out ~500mhz or less on the core. Any more and it totally crashes my system. I could add more voltage through a mod etc... but I dont personally care for the extra 2FPS because at this point all my games run fine.

I think its his x850 video card, because im not sure what other core would be running in the 500-600mhz range.

Yeah we can guess, but it would be better for everyone if he actually stated it.

Anyway 590mhz on an X850 XT is a great overclock on the core. Also don't expect over 600mhz on the memory. The X850 is near it's thermal and overclocking limits for that architecture.

ups sorry well its a orininal platinum edition so i didnt overclock it from xt to xt pe it starts to happen when cores at 591 and memory at 620 +

sorry for the lack of details :P em the default of the core is 540 and 590 for the memory, thanks ! :) think i just hit a wall than.... or is it just my card in particular....

Alright well like I said thats an average overclock for these series of cards. Buying high end ATI cards usually means there is very little headroom for overclocking.

k thanks all i wanted to know, i was just curious you know my game runs just fine but i thought ah heck i bought a zalman cooler now anyways for the silence of it.... might aswel try to overclock but it doesnt :P

Is there a BIOS mod for the 850xt? I did a BIOS mod for my 7800gt and it seems to be working out fine. Soldering and poking it with pencils is too much for me though :)
