It is really not different than ATI and Nvidia. The two companies will always go back and forth looking for the latest thing to give them an edge. The latest and greatest will be super expensive, so the general public won't buy into it anyhow. Years down the line when the new thing comes out, people will be able to afford what was once top of the line.
Don't get caught up in having the latest and greatest or you'll be broke and realize that even if you get 5% better performance out of something, it really won't make much difference at all in the grand scheme of things.
New technology is cool, but it's just about bragging rights. Soon, AMD will be saying they have the faster chip. It will never end.
