major framerate issues with decent system

Ever since i patched to 1.22 I have been getting some major areas of slowdown in BF2. First of all, my system specs are 3200+amd64 2 gig ram 6800gt@380/1.08 (oc) onboard sound with software and for video almost all medium one low on shadows and i just put view distance down to 95 to see if i could fix my framerate issues. My biggest problems come on Karkand, which is what I usually play on pub servers I get HUGE slowdowns around the train area when there are more than 3 or so people in view and a couple other areas as well. I was thinking maybe they changed the way meshes are rendered again? and this time its worse? but i dont know since i can't seem to pinpoint exactly when my slowdowns are occuring. it almost seems random, but its not since i have had the same issue albeit randomly around the trainyard on karkand, much less in other places on that map. I have noticed a general drop in framerate even though i just overclocked my system to compensate. put my cpu at 2.4 ghz, and upped the gfx card to what i said above....... im not sure if this is a game problem or if i should continue tweaking my system. I don't see how it could be a coincidence but im open to suggestions. Makes me not wanna play bf2 and that sucks

well, it could be heat from you overlocking your system and not upgrading your cooling or it could be the server you play on, it's best to try on many different servers to see if it's just and issue with one particular server or if all of them do it.

Is this the only time you really notice a slowdown? Do you notice it on any other maps?

well i just played two rounds of wake island and it still had the same issues. framerate slows down to worse than i ever remember it dipping to prior to the patch. Kind of understandably, at one point there was one chinese flag and everyone was spawning there and there was an ally tank in front of me, i couldnt see any enemies but the framerate was definitely below 15. It dips to a little higher than that every so often. Arg.... I've tried different drivers, overclocking, more ram.... still have that .... im also running an nforce3 board (recently upgraded to it) forgot to mention that, i wonder if that could be the source of any of my problems. i upgraded from an sis chipset board that worked fine, but i got this one becaus eof more ram slots and its support for osx86 :P ... might have to reinstall xp and find out or something... i dontg know!!! aaasdkl

i know im pretty much just whining, but this sucks! i cant afford another system.... i thought i had this one pretty decently pimped out.... i might have to try my sis chipset again, what a pain in the ass... does anyone have any other suggestions?

Try installing another demanding game...like Quake 4 or FEAR and see how that runs. If it runs fine chances are that it is not a hardware problem. Also, go into settings and turn your sound quality to low and make sure that EAX is DISABLED.

if anybodys following this thread i discovered the problem. it has to do with the nforce3 chipset and the geforce 6800gt. it seems the two dont like each other. strange seeing as how they are both made by the same company... but i confirmed it, i put in my old motherboard and the game and other games run flawlessly now. Too bad, I liked the nforce board but im gonna give it to my brother who has a 7800gs, so hopefully he'll have no problems with it.
