A 4X Motherboard problem!

Hey, Im runnning a 6600(non gt) 128MB AGP on a K7S5A Pro SiSChipset motherboard, but recently when I bought this new GFx card I thought I could finally run all my games at a very hgih FPS, but I was wrong. Im only running my old and new games at 30 FPS!! I saw my mobo didnt support 8X AGP speeds and I was only running on 4X speeds. Could this be the problem to my lag in bf2 and other games?

The AGP 4x could indeed be limiting your bandwidth in games. Have you considered upgrading?

yeah really dont have the money. Im using a AMD 2400+ XP 1 GIG of Ram

I played on an old Compaq with AMD 1800+, 5200U at AGP 4x and 640mb of RAM at about 15-25 FPS. Like Wreck said, UPGRADE!

You have a decent video card and ram, so you could probably get by with just a motherboard and processor. Maybe a budget socket 754.

well, what settings are you trying to play at?

because the 6600 128mb isnt really that great, so if you tried to play on high, or medium-highish you will be dissapointed. you can probably play medium somewhat decently. but the processer is somewhat of a bottleneck. i think you just had a misconception of what the performance would be like, sorry.

but yes, what settings are you trying? because if its 30fps on default/low settings than that is a problem.

and btw, its now the 4x that is a problem. most games dont even use the full x8 yet, so 4x isnt that much of a problem.

try putting textures and lighting down. also make sure that the AA is off

I just tested a 6600 256 at low/medium settings with 2x AA at 1280x1024, and I got from 40-60 fps. It looked like crap compared to what I'm used to, but it played smooth.
