7600 GT gets WAY too hot

Sorry for another thread, but I finally figured out the problem. When I am playin a game, my card's temp will get to about 85 C. When I am idle its about 74 C. Right now im at 76 C.

So once it gets to about 85 C it will freeze for about 30 seconds to "cool off". And because of this heat, my clock speeds have dropped



I don't know what to do. Did eVGA just make a bad product?

You can either take the HS off and clean everything up and re-apply thermal paste and re seat everything, see if that helps.

Or you can RMA it.

I would choose the latter.

Your fan may have gone bad or something, you could try mounting a fan at the bottom of your case to blow are on it.

are you sure there isn't some pci card or something in front of your GPU fan blocking air?

make sure your fan is running without resistance and that there is no dust in it.
what are the temperatures of your mobo, case etc..?

How can I find the temp for the MOBO?

It says the "full load" temp is 65 C, well that's what I get RIGHT when windows starts up!

MOBO 24 C
CPU 69 C
GPU 71 C

You have a horribly vented case IMO. On bootup temps should be in the 30-40's, and with good cooling not reach over 48-50*C on full load for hours on end running an intensive game.


EDIT: Also the 7600s are supposed to be very cool running, do you have any case fans? Is the heater in your house on a ridiculously high setting?

I have 2 120mm Fans, one on back and one on the front and a side fan of 80mm

I wouldnt mess with the stock video card just yet. There is something fundamentally wrong with your build. An A64 @ 2.3ghz should not be running at almost 70*C. That is ridiculously high, there is something very wrong here... very very wrong.

I turned off my PC and unplugged the power cable and the heatsink was not hot whatsoever

maybe your sensors aren't giving right temperatures.
