Yes i will be building it myself.

I went through this exact exercise for real last June. Check my sig for what I came up with. Bought all of the parts on the day the 7800GTX's hit the street. Felt like I bought the best stuff possible on that day. My budget was 6K, but I came in at 4K (plus OS & software). I'm sure that people could debate the merits of some of the parts I bought, but I've been quite happy with the result and ultimately that is what matters anyway.

people have many prefences in parts, some say buy a cheap mother board and processor for an awesome vid card, others will say buy all mid grade stuff. Like S.A.S said, it really comes down to what YOU want.

Yeah I agree with them above me........We can say all we want to say like "Buy a coke" . But it ultimetly is YOU that decides not us.....so get what you think is best and who knows maybe someone here will help you find the thing thats perfect for you.

Except that their not, and you can't have HDR+AA with nvidia makes me want to go ati this round. Sure crossfire isn't that mature yet, but when it works it works great and considering a x1900xtx is faster than a 7900gtx makes it a no brainer.

Hmm, you must not have noticed that the board he posted is one of the new ATI R580 chipset boards which are excellent. Crossfire is working just fine now.

People don't realize that unless you are using high resolution monitors crossfire is pointless. Two powerful graphics cards like the X1900 or 7900 create a bottleneck with your CPU, and show little performance gains over single cards for this reason.

@ Col.Moore:

Get the Xfi extremem music sound card instead of the Audigy 2. Get an extra 250Gb + hard drive for storage, something 16mb cache and Sata II. Also I don't see why you are going with a 7800 over a 7900 version?

Show me where Crossfire works better than SLi.

First of all you are picking one of the most expensive ATI brand cards to compare to one of the cheapest Nvidia cards. And don't forget the X1900's are available right now in all brands and have had no shortages of stock. Nvidia must be having yeild problems with 90nm.

Please quote where I said it works better. There is no such thing as two XTX's in crossfire because one needs to be a crossfire card which is an XT basically. You show me where on the new R580 chipset and new 6.3 drivers where the 7900 is pounding the x1900 like a red headed stepchild.

No one is even debating ATI vs. Nvidia since he posted (see quote below) he's buying Nvidia and only a sigle card already. That should be the end of it. I'm telling him that he should buy a 7900 GT or 7900 GTX instead of the 7800 GTX, so please take your fanboy arguments elsewhere.

All of the 7900's are out of stock thats why i went with the 7800, and I do plan on upgrading when they are in stock

What problems? I haven't heard of too many (except for the evga 7900gtx superclocked, which has an abnormally high faliure rate) problems. Get a 7900, going 7800 now is a massive mistake.

Because you can get a 7900gt for 150 less than a 7800gtx and beat it performance wise. The only thing I would recommend doing is if you can't wait buy an evga 7800gt(or gtx) and step-up immediately.

That much money and gear wont protect you from me, so whats the point. Give your money to Dell, New Egg, doesnt really matter, cause your @ss belongs to me.:evil:

About the video cards, dont believe the hype. I use ATI and love them dearly. I switched from a 6600gt to an 800gto (same price at the time). The x800gto beats the 6600gt hands down, not even close IMO. Maybe its different at the hgiher range, but the get most bang for the little buck. Most of the best players dont have SLI 7800 set ups, or any crazy thing.

It wont help your game, I bet you good money.
