i would go with like a AMD fx-57 processer or dual core 4800+
2gb (2x1gb) sticks of like OCZ gold or something RAM
DFI lanparty UT SLI DR EXPERT or ASUS A8n32 Sli motherboard.
two evga 7900gtx's in Sli
a 19" LCD flatpanel with like 2ms response time.
dual raptors in RAID
700watt psu (lol)
creative x-fi fatility.
the list could go on but just remeber... in about 1 year you mite be doin some upgradin.

I agree, but get whatever case you like. I prefer Lian Li, but I'm more of a simple clean line type.

I'd also add an additional 320+ Gb Western digital 16mb Sata II drive for storage.

My adivce, take 1/2 that to spend on your computer, but the other half in a savaings account and upgrade again in a year or so when newer tech is out (Quad Core, G80, etc).

I bought the mx5000, and returned it an hour after I got it. It is by far the crappiest keyboard/mouse combo I have ever owned. The software sucks, the keyboard sticks waaaaaaaaaay too often, the bluetooth mx1000 is a inferior version to the one you can get alone. Don't buy it.

With this kind of budget, spend money on the second or third best parts, but spend the majoirty of the money on extras. Get a nice monitor, nice case, nice PSU and nice speakers.

Something like a X2 4200+, 2GB ram, x1900xt, and a 150GB raptor + 400GB storage drive etc....

Keep the rest of your money in the bank as upgrade funds. In one yhear sell the x1900xt for 1/2 - 3/4 the cost and upgrade to the newest video card etc.....

A $4000 budget will buy you the absolute best computer possible, but no amount of money wil keep your computer from becoming obsolete in 2 years. Also keep in mind the performance difference between a $1200 computer and a $4000 computer is not that much, and the gap will be quickly closed in 6 months to a year.
Put money into components that will last 4 or 5 years. Budget the computer like you have only $1200+ to spend on parts, throw $1500 at monitor, case, speakers, and keep the rest for upgrades in 1+ years. Its much easier and more economical (and satisfying) to be one step behind the cutting edge, and always upgrading while your parts are still attractive to buyers on the secondary market. For instance the performance difference between a 4800+ and FX60 is neglegible, but the cost is fairly significant. Buy the cheaper and plan on selling it used in 1.5 years, and you can recoop over half the cost selling to someone and you will always ensure your one or two steps behind the cutting edge.

Nothing sucks more than to spend big bucks up front and watch your computer get slower with each passing year. IMO budget in and plan to replace parts over time, and dont plan on replacing the entire computer in 5 years.

Just my advice. Remember just because you have 4 grand, doesnt mean the smartest move is to spend all of the 4 grand on parts up front now, regardless of it being expensive its still going to be obsolete in 6 months to a year.
