Creative X-FI Xtreme Music card....

This is a sound card...
Anways, OMFG I have gotten so mad with this thing, the sound is surprisingly awesome but it made everything so slow, I updated my drivers to the newest..
What happens is I'm playing a game then all of a sudden everything freezes for about 15 secs then everything is so choppy even my mouse on the desktop is all stuttery and then the loading it literally takes 10 minutes
I've experienced this with Bf2 and Oblivion...........

Anything I can do to fix this fuc|<in aggravating problem? Thanks..

Unfortunately I haven't had the problem so I can't really help... what drivers are you using? Are there any games that the X-Fi does work in?

I think its 2.7.2004 no the 2004 doesent indicate the year... umm well I havent really tried any other games yet ..

What really gets me angry too is the console thats a circle with a blue things on the top right... after awhile it just wont open, the loading thing shows up on my cursor but it never opens, it gets me so angry..

Did you turn off your onboard sound in your bios? Uninstall any old drivers (if you had them)? Probably a silly question, but you never know.

try to install the beta drivers or turn of the 24 bit crystalyzer (game mode)

Ok well my sound curt off on me earlier then it came back on, now it cut off again... WTF is going on with my computer this is just driving me crazy!!

okay. make sure your onboard audio is disabled in BIOS. uninstall any drivers for that. then, download the newest drivers and update them just by double clicking. also make sure that the x-fi card is pushed into the PCI slot all the way (just have to check). make sure you also have sufficient power supply (though it doesnt use much power). then make sure its in gaming mode and try to play a game.

what are the rest of your system specs? and no... the 24 bit crystalizer doesnt hurt performance.

Rest: 6800gt , 2gb ram , AMD 3500 (64 bit) I went into my bios I couldnt find anywhere to disable the onboard sound

its ok to have onboard sound...

i use my onboard sound card for the mic, and X-Fi for speakers..
just make sure u set X-Fi as defualt siound device in contrl pnel, (an the onboard sound as default record device ..if u choose to use mic on the onboard sound)

24bit crystalzr works fine on the beta X-fi driver, when it was turned on for me., but lagged out BF2 when using the current certifed drivers from creative labs...

First off make sure its actualy the sound card thats the problem. Remove the card and see if you still have the problem.

I have a Gigabyte K8 triton..

I removed the sound card and it was back to normal, no problems, then I put it back in and its back to hell

RMA it!!!!

The x-fi is meant to increase game performance not decrease it. What eveer settings you have on as it has its own processor so the pc should need to do no work with the sound.

Have you tried it in another machine?

I don't think it normally increases performance in BF2. Maybe if you kept the settings at software, but most people use Ultra High with the X-Fi and it neither reduces fps nor increases it. You just get 128 3d voices and EAX effects :)

This is what my search pulled up for a "gigabtye k8 triton"--a K8NS xxx. Here is the manual, in pdf. On page 36, it shows you where to access your onboard integrated peripherals. You should try disabling the onboard MIDI and the onboard AC'97 Audio.

As someone else said, you "should" be able to use both--but if everything worked as it "should", there wouldn't be support forums...

If you don't believe in downloading things from strange people off the internet (which, incidentally, I don't recommend) you can go to gigabytes' website and get the same .pdf.

Good luck. Make sure that you don't have any drivers/backgound software running for the onboard sound still active.
