    CPU question

OK, easy question. Basicly, what AMD would compare to this Intel Chip?

This would be the closest. The AMD is a fair bit better as well.

Thanks, now I need to convince my dad that AMD is better even though the Clock speed is lower

        Re: CPU question

Not to mention the on-die memory controller is a huge advantage.

Since the OP did not specify socket type, i will take this more as an academic exercise.

Thats more price competitive but its still much faster than your particular intel. That intel you posted is castrated with low 533FSB and low 2.8ghz clock speed. Its essentially a celeron dressed up as a P4.

just tell your dad that an AMD does more per Mhz if you get what i mean...

              Re: CPU question

If you want figures i think that these are right...

Intel chips do 6 instructions per clock
              AMD's do 9 per clock

              So if you hae a 3ghz Intel chip, its 3*6 = 18
              Where as a 2Ghz AMD is like 9*2 = 18

SO a 2Ghz AMD is equivelent to a 3Ghz Intel.. or there abouts.
