    PCIe x1 slot?

I may just be a raving idiot,

but what's the point of the PCIe x1, and what could I use it for?

    Here's one use for it,

This website is for sale! ncix.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, ncix.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

On a more serious note, the 1x slot will be for sound cards, modems, etc when they become available.

It's basically the next generation interface for current PCI devices. There is really no need for it yet there is little out that will fit in the slot.

does it have better bandwitdth then a current PCI slot? hmm, maybe they should make/have made the ageia physx for this slot, for people like me with only two PCI slots.

It will, just give them a month or two.

I hope they release something for it.

I wonder what kind of bandwidth this slot has?

I believe 1x has a speed of 250mb/s each way.

Every "X" of PCIe equals 250MB of bandwidth. PCI is 133MB of bandwidth shared, PCIe is dedicated to each slot for its full rated bandwidth.

                PCIe x1 is 250, x4 is 1GB etc...

wow. it would seem wise for Ageia to make use of this slot. It would be much faster than the regular PCI slot, that's for sure!

The current processor doesn't need that much bandwidth or they would have made it for PCIexpress. Once they come out with better physics processors and more people adopt PCIexpress it will be more beneficial to start using the PCIexpress slots. I can't wait until they abandon PCI alltogether.

I am in the same boat with only 2 pci slots.

Guess almost all of us are, I only have two PCI slots as well, filled up by a wireless card and sound card. Finally my PCIe x1 slot will see some use:)

i didnt really care much about the PCI slots, until now, and i want a mobo with 3 but it would be a waste just to get a new one that is basically the same just for an extra PCI slot. though, next time I make a computer or upgrade this one I will make sure I have 1-2 PCIe x1 slots and 3 PCI slots.
