    Format from Intel to AMD?

I just got a new motherboard and went from Intel 2.0 to an AMD 3200+
Problem is it starts up to the Asus screen then it restarts over and over. My friends told me I have to format becuase going from Intel to AMD is a huge difference. Do I really have to format?? I dont want to

You might be able to get away with a repair install,

XP Home repair, Windows XP home repair, repair install XP Home, XP repair, repair, how to repair xp

And it is not because you went from Intel to AMD that is the problem. The problem is is that XP looks for specific hardware and if it isn't there, then it won't load/boot. The same thing would happen if you had kept you Intel but changed the motherboard to one with a different chipset (Intel board to one that is VIA based e.g.).

If the repair install doesn't work, then you will have to re-install Windows, which would probably be the best thing to do anyway. That way you end up with a nice clean install to go with the new hardware, and eliminate and potential problems from any left-over drivers etc from the old install.

Best thing to do would be to put the hard drive back in the old computer, back up what you want to save, then put it back in the new one and do a clean install.

dont repair install, it can cause registry errors and other problems. usually people just use it so they can get on and get their information if something went wrong in windows. I would definitly format.

yes, you need to reformat, cuz when you instal windows, it configues itself to the processor, sicne you changed the processor, windows wont start up.

same thing happnes if you change your mobo.
