x800 pro how high can i go on this spec?

    ati x800 pro
768 RAM (three slots of 256mb)
    3.0 Ghz pentium 4 (w/ h.t)
    100gb hard drive
    17 inch monitor
    BIOS pheonix - awardBIOS v600PG

i would like to know the advanced settings that people have for this card that puts bf2 looking great

but i want to load it just as fast?

im a software person rather than hardware so i appreciate help.

(i paid £200 for this card is that ok?)

    cheers

i guess that is an okay price, but a little high (i dont know the exact conversions UK> US). I would say about medium to medium-high settings. THOUGH if you get another 256mb ram to have 1GB, then you could probably go mostly high settings. (but then you would have used all your slots so you would be stuck with 1gb unless you purchased a new ram kit).

as for adavnced settings, just try for your self, find the best image/graphic quality to framerate ratio that you like best.

There's always a trade-off. If you want fast load times, lower your settings. If you want great graphics, increase your settings - but learn to live with longer load times. To be honest, where you are going to get killed is in the amount of RAM you have. I would suggest at least doubling what you have, if possible. (1.5 MB is okay. 2 MB or more is better.)

I don't know what the exchange rate is right now, but I paid $425 for my X800 Pro - but that was two years ago when it was the sh*t card from ATI. It sounds like you paid a bit too much. Check prices on Newegg.com.

To answer your question: After extensive mucking around with BF2 video settings, I find a good combination of performance and quality with the following:

Display & Refresh rate: As high as possible for both on your monitor.

AA: At least 2x, more if no performance hits noticed.

      All other settings: Medium... Except:

Effects: High (allows you to see fire from shots and locate shooters better)
      Dynamic Shadows: Off
      Dynamic Lighting: Off
Lighting: Low - only if you have problems (this gives you an advantage in many situations because you can see better than other people, but everything looks cheap and phony).

      Good Luck.

NOTE: Since patch 1.22, the performance on servers has definitely improved, IMO. I've been playing with all settings on High the past couple of days, including 6x AA, and it's been smooth as silk on low ping servers.

you can overclock your card with ATITOOL you know and it will also tell you your most stable settings.

you could of got a 7800gt for £175 and that destroys the x800pro

unless you bought the x800 pro say a year back that would be a decent price
