I would look for a X1600 Pro. Only 130 USD on newegg. Pretty good card. i have one and i can play some on high and rest on medium. I only have 1.25 Gig of ram so i bet with 2 Gigs you would be able to play at all high. You should be able to set settings the same as me. Just search around and if you dont find anything else like this then i would try it out.

As far as performance, it is a little better than the 6600GT, it does way better with AA and AF enabled. This is what i would personally pick if i needed a nice upgrade. and yea that FX5200 is a piece(no offense). this would be a huge upgrade. hope this helps.

As far as low settings you could probably get 70fps+ constant. On low iget 80 and above.
Dont waste extra money on 512mb version b/c the card dosent utilize that much the 256 version is ytour best bet.

get a 6600 or a6600 gt, and with a gig of ram it will run low/med-low settings flawlessly. I had a 2.53gz pentium 4, AGP 4x 5700LE with 128mb memory, and a gig of ram and i got 100fps constant low settings.

Im not contradicting you sackynut but in my opinion the X1600 outperforms the 6600Gt but it is up to beaver so he can choose his own card. Iwill also try to post pictures of some midrange card benchmarks.

Here is a post about the 2. http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...ce-6600gt.html

            Her is another. http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...readid=1793006

Also tell us waht your budget is. this will also help a whole lot.

well the 6600gt is 5$cheaper. i think on newegg right now?

Both of them are really great cards. but the X1600 has more processing power when you get into higher resolutions. But if you are going to play at 1024 then you should benefit from either one.

You could try the demo and see if it works for you.

If you want a card to play on medium/high, a 6600gt or a 7600gs would do the trick. The 7600gs is $20 more, but it also performs better, probably overclocks better with its 90nm process, and has a better architecture for HDR lighting. BF2 doesn't use HDR, but it might be nice if you play other games that do use it.

edit: hehe I'm retarded :) the 7600gs is PCIe only. Go for the 6600gt :)

x1600pro definately. i have this card too (256 mb) and it's great. i run everything on maxed settings, 1024x768 and i push out 55 fps.
                that's with a athlon 64 3200 and 1 gig of ram. very good price/value!
with a little OC i could maybe run on much higher resolutions without any lag.
i'll try later today and let you know..

budget...err probably up to $200 but with a PSU if necessary...

would a new PSU be required with the x1600 Pro?

Looks like a good card. You probably won't need to upgrade your PSU, as long as you don't overclock it.

i had to order a new ps. My system would randomly turn off until i bought a 550W psu. It also probably did that b/c i oc'ed my cpu to 2.5. i run like 6 case fans also.lol A 400 W should be good enough.
