6800GT = good price for what you get and it runs very well and smooth.

ATI X1900XTX, all high settings and runs like a dream. BF2 and COD2 never looked so good. High price though.. If you're going all out though then why not choose the best?

anything with more then 20 pixel pipelines and a core clock of at least 450
i got the EVGA 7800 GT which is 20 pixel pipelines and a core clock of 470 and i can run all settings on high, but it don't run totally smooth and i have a $2200 puter with really good parts, i would suggest the new 7900 for around 300 bucks i think.

            7900gt is the best choice.

Don't even think about buying a 6800gt. I have one and it runs the game like crap. Plus, for 100 or more dollars, you can buy a card that is twice as fast.

              I'd prefer the ATI X1900 XT-X over a 7900 any day

Better performance when overclocking and better warranties from ATI

                    I bought x1800xl 2 months back
                    seems pretty good for $/value

. . . son has same computer as me
                    but x800xl
I get about 10-15% better performance
so he plays at 1280 x 1024 res to keep fps over 70
                    (see configuration below)

the newer cards seem even better and less $
                    (7900 eg)

no way the 6800 series can match $/value

                    and to LOKI:
I use all "let APP choose settings" in catalyst panel
was thinking of letting catalyst make choice
                    (eg Ant-A and filtering)

                    your thoughts?

                    fyi
                    in game
                    P4 3.2 Ghz
                    2GB pc3200 ddr 400
(getting 2 more GB this week)
                    2 SATA 1 HD (7200rpm and 8Mb cache)
                    blaster live audio card

                    All settings on highest except
                    shadows off
                    AA at 2x
                    resolution at 1600 x 1200
                    avg 60-90 fps
can I do better if I use catalyst panel
and does game setting overide? or get ignored?

                    thanks

I have a BFG 6800GT and it runs BF2 like a charm. I also have:
                      - Intel 3.2MHz
                      - 2G RAM

For future games the 6800GT is not the deal, but to run BF2, that is MORE than enough.

You are recommanding a top end video card, I don't know if the first poster wants to spend that much on a VC. He should specifying how much he has to spend.

Other that that you could also recommand a Nvidia Quad SLI kit with 4 GTX top end card

I just said that because bf2 is the worst coded game i have ever played. All other FPS games play nice and smooth.

You have a 3.2mhz prcoessor? When did you get it, 1980? Lol

I have the same setup except i have a 3ghz p4. It runs well except on laggy servers.

I have the BFG 6800GS OC - very very nice card for the money!

Not sure on my FPS, anyone know the console command? I know its renderer.drawfps or something similar...?

Also, while we are on the subject - anyway to get it to show up in a place other than where all the names of killings are>?

eVGA 6800GS from newegg is down to $169 and it runs BF2 GREAT. That's with AMD 3500, 1gb 3200 ram...

I would HIGHLY recommend this card. It may not come with a power cable at first but they will send you one. Great card, great value.
