Here is the math.

Take a $180 Opty 144, throw a $50 cooler on it, and OC it to 3.0 MHz, where you are officially smoking a $900 FX-57 in single threaded programs like games.

If I burn it out, I don't care, because I have enough money left over to do it three more times and still come out ahead. But by then the FX-57 will be $180 and I'll be OC'ing that instead.

Got it?

20fps gain in fear? Who gives? Seriously the human eye can only see 27.3 frames or something so who cares if "Fear runs 20fps better". I have a AMD 64 3200, 6600GT and 1 gb of Ram. I could probably overclock my cpu to about 2.4 ghz, but i dont want to. So i run all stock to keep my components smoke free.

To me 20fps is huge...the difference of a game being potentially unplayable or not.

Speaking of FEAR, the settings testing vignette is an excellent means of seeing just how much difference 20fps makes. Rachet all of the settings on high and you will see what I mean. On your system (3200 + 6600) those settings are going to give you an excruciatingly slow frame rate. If you don't mind that then it can only be because you die alot anyway and don't care to be competitive. Performance = higher resolution at an equal or higher framerate = better accuracy.

FYI, I have been OC'ing for years. If done properly and with dicipline you can see significant performance improvements, particularly if you are OC'ing your graphics card, with no damage to your hardware. I've never toasted a componant due to changing its frequency. Either you're falling victim of urban myth or you have friends who are bad OC'ers.

Well, to come back on that divider thing... it worked on 2.6 ghz but less performance than on 2.5 without dividing.... and i got a blue screen with 2.7 ghz even with dividing the ram, just like your pc has crashed so i've decided to just stick with 2.5 ghz with my ram running @ 230 mhz which it does perfectly.... thnx for the help you guys

actually the human eye can see up to 68 fps before it all looks the same. You can tell a difference between 30fps and 60 fps.

I've been running my computer heavily overclocked for 5 years, and it hasn't affected performance at all. Besides, your suppose to upgrade your computer every 2 or so years anyway, so what does it matter if you shorten the life span from 8-10 years to 6-8 years?

I have never killed any component due to overclocking. My point of overclocking is to get say an FX62, which isn't even out, for 1/4 the cost of one. It's about getting value for your money and not following the uninformed in buying the most expensive things when you don't need them. It's also a hobby and a challenge. You have to do research, be patient, and get lucky to get the best overclock for your money. Most of all it's fun.

HTT 260 mhz

multiplier 10x

voltage in bios : 1.552
cpu-z says 1.552 or 1.568
ram is running at 220 mhz with the divider thingy

so im running stable on 2600 mhz stabel after 12 hours of prime95..... so im happy now.... when i go to 2700 mhz with 1.525 V in bios i just get a fatal error in prime95... so i think i've reached my ceiling here....

To rule out the ram being the cause put your divider on the next lowest setting.
Make sure your LDT mutli is 3x if you are going above 260mhz HTT bus.

Just for your info, you will probably get your sig remover the limit is 4 lines, you might want to reduce it somehow.
