    1 GB Memory

I need some info on a 1 Gb RAM kit that i could purchase. What is the best kit for the value and performance that i could buy. I dont know all the companies out there so i was hoping some of you would give me some advice. Im buying this until i have money for AM2 platform and some ddr2 memory. Thanks for the help:) .

Honestly, you should go with 2GB

But, yeah, I have OCZ Platinum series 2GB.. Always a nice choice to go with OCZ or Corsair

      Re: 1 GB Memory

OCZ, Mushkin, Corsair, G.Skill, and Micron are all top brands.

If you have a fast 939 system I would just take the dive into 2GB, you can pick up 2GB of G.Skill PC4000 for $150 right now, its a good deal IMO.

As for whats the best etc... lower timings are better, 2-2-2-5 is the fastest you will find.

On the A64 platform latency (and bandwdith) do not matter nearly as much as on the P4, and we are talking 1-2% performance if that, frequently there is zero performance loss going from CAS2 to CAS3 in real world applications and games.

If you are dead set on having this be a temporary solution until AM2 (Might want to look at conroe instead) get value cas 2.5 or cas 3 ram and sit pretty. Performance ram is for one of three things. Bling bling asthetic value, overclocking (and only if you do your research, there is lenty of expensive ram that doesnt OC for crap) or for the uber high end last mile of performance for people with lots of money.

AM2 will not be faster than 939, but i assume you know that, just get some Value ram from the manufacturers above.

I would like 3200 but will 2100 be as fast? Could i really tell the difference between 2100 and 3200?

              huge difference

anything less than 3200 is a waste of money for you.

No it wont, i made a mistake there... lol

There are sticks for $66 that are naked, a corsair comes to mind, but this has tighter timings for $5. Its up to you.

alright i was about to say it was kind of weird that it was 2100. Ok thanks for the help. If you really suggest that then i will go ahead and order it. As long as it can hold me off until AM2 then im happy! I like G skill anyway. Thanks
