I wouldnt go with 3 sticks, you lose dual channel support and run your ram at a 2T timing. Both are not that much of a performance hit individually, but together in certain instance its probably a 10-15% performance loss.

Right now no game, not even BF2 needs more that 2GB, I dont see a upside and would recommend not doing this.

If by an extra gig you mean 2x 512MB i would still be against it because its just not needed and if you have a pre venice 3500+ it will drop you speed to ddr333.

3-4 gigs of ram....wth? More ram is good only if your processor can take it. My friend had a computer built for him with only 1 gig of ram, but has a high speed hard drive that reads data extremly fast and he plays star wars and other games online.

Sorry, but absolutely no harddrive is as fast as RAM. RAM is prefered over a harddrive any day. Comparing the speed at which data is read/transfered between RAM and a harddrive is like comparing the speed of an F1 car to riding lawn mower.

Stick with 2GB. You don't want to lose dual channel support or drop to DDR333 which happens with AMDs when you fill all 4 slots. 2GBs is plenty for now. Maybe in a year or 2 you might want to upgrade.

I have 2 gb ram running in dual channel and I have a gig spare. Is it worth putting it in or is this not advisable ?

You can place it in my spare slot and I will let you know how it goes.

Being limited to 4GB of RAM has nothing to do with windows....

its simply a 32bit limitation.

64 bit extensions open it up immensely, thankfully.
