????Ram Timing????:confused:

I am about to purchase new ram and i have become very confused about what the ram timing is for(2-2-2-6,etc.) I have heard that the lower it is the better, but i have heard that higher is better elsewhere. I am looking into 2x512 Crucial Ballistix pc3200 with timing of 2-2-2-6 or 2x512 OCZ Gold series pc3200 with timing of 2-2-2-5, both of those rams having heatspreaders (if that matters )

Any info about this would be greatly appreciated

lower is better, but for an Athlon64 platform timings are generally irrelevent. For the Pentium 4 timings matter more, but we are still talking only a few % performance or a few FPS.

Generally I would recommend Value ram with cas 2.5 timings. Pick up some nice Corsair, OCZ, Mushkin Value PC3200.

Also try and go with 2GB of ram if this is for BF2, 2GB of CAS 2.5 or CAS3 is much better than 1GB of CAS2.

Low timed memory is like getting Quad SLI, or a WD Raptor. Yes its faster, but is it worth the money? NO. You hit diminishing returns and especially with the A64 was that extra 1.5 frames a second worth $70? I dont think so.

If anyone wants the best of DDR2 ram no matter what the timings wait for DDR2 800 ram to come out in the shops. And if anyone wants AMD 64 PC with DDR2, then your have to wait till the AMD 64 AM2 motherboards and CPU's come out guys.

These timings are really only important if plan to overclock your system if you are not gunna overclock you will see more preformance with 2 gig of cheaper value ram with a CL of 2.5 or 3. BF2 will like 2 gig of value ram more than 1 gig of fast OC ram.
