    X-fi Questions

I've been looking into getting a X-fi XtremeMusic, and I was wondering how power hungry it is. I only have a 300W PSU with a solid 12v rail. I don't have a super-system, and I'm not running anything extraneous on it. Could it handle it? Also, does the XtremeMusic edition require any floppy power connectors or molex?

    Thanks in advance. :)

What are the rest of your system specs?

No it doesn't require any additional connectors.

      P4 2.8
      1x 80gb HDD
      2gb PC3200 @ 4 dimms
      6800 Vanilla
      2x optical drives
      Floppy

I know I probably shouldn't be able to run all this on a 300W PSU but oh well.
I currently have a Creative SoundBlaster Live that's garbage.

I don't think it would draw much more power than the SoundBlaster Live.
There's only so much power that can go through a PCI slot.

But getting a better PSU should be the next upgrade :)

Really, using that power supply (especially with a P4 and 6800) is killing your system. Get a cheap but good one like the one above (I have that one). It will give your computer better performance and a better lifespan.

            how wrong could you be.

A PSU does not increase performance it will either work or not work. And the 6800 isnt that power hungry. If its not restarting and BSOD then your fine. My xfi doesnt draw that much power but i have a 480watt PSU. The best thing to do is buy the Xfi and try it !

the PSU cannot really "increase" performance, but it can decrease it, if there isnt enough, the video cards can downclock and junk.

Exactly and I have a 6800. Right on the box it says it requires a 350w power supply. So more power would make an increase. How wrong could you be S.A.S.
