Yet another RAM question

Hello all,

I've just installed 2 gigs of corsair ram PC3200 (200MHz):
CAS 3.0
RAS to CAS 3.0
RAS#Precharge 3
TRAS 8
according to cpu-z under the SPD tab.

Under the memory tab of cpuz it shows:
Frequency 178.2 MHZ
FSBRAM 1:1
CAS 3.0
CAS 3.0
RAS to CAS 3.0
RAS#Precharge 3
TRAS 7

Does this mean that my memory is not running as "fast" as it should be (@200MHZ)?


What can I change to make it run like its supposed to? (if it is slow)

My bios is called PhoenixAward BIOS 0.66p
My specs:
AMD XP 2600+ Barton @ 2.01MHz

i'd set your TRAS to 8 because lowering it can often degrade performance.

Edit: There can be an issue with tRAS timings and Nforce2 chipsets.. One site said 11 was often the magic number, but other people say 'higher is not always better'.

I've never owned an Nf2 chipset mobo, so I cant say. But sticking with 8 probably wont hurt. But then again, 7, might be benefiting you.

Your CPU has a 333mhz(pc2700) max FSB, so your memory cannot run at it's full speed.

You actually have the better 2600 of the two available(a Barton), the other only goes to 266mhz(pc2100).

As your specs show, you are actually overclocking it slightly for the FSB, but the modules themselves are still well below their ability.

You should be able to fiddle around with your settings to run asynchronously if you insist on getting the ram close to 200/400.
