XFI sound card issues....upon changing settings to XFI BF2 crashes..

I had been having all kinds of lag issues here lately...

SO I re-formatted and re-installed everything...

All new drivers and bios updates...

Now when I go to audio options and select XFI settings, BF2 crashes to desktop and the change is not made...

The XFI worked without issue before my re-format... But also b4 the 1.21 patch....

I have zero lag issues..... which was my objective.... but now I cant use the Upgraded sound card... crapp....

Do a search..you'll find EVERY X-Fi owner has had this problem with BF2.

You MUST use the new drivers from Creative.

One user has suggested that after installing the drivers, choose the X-Fi mode and Apply, then quit BF2, restart BF2 then choose the Ultra-High mode, and Apply. Voila

yes. Though, my original drivers (the ones that came on the cd) worked fine with bf2 for a very long time. I had no issues ingame with them at all, or settings or anything. Just one day they decided to go whack on me. Yes, go to creative.com, and find the newest DRIVERS for your specific card. DO NOT, uninstall the previous drivers, they automatically update when you download/install it off the website.

I had this problem. I am using the lastest drivers and BF2 patched to the latest version....

I have resolved it without having to format my PC. My PC is running perfect at the moment with all the software I want on it. To format and reset it up again would have taken me a week or so! So a format was not an option! lol!

I'm a fan of Ghost so I do have an image of my system so if ever a crash happened it would only take about 20 mins to re-image my PC!

I did have an Audigy card in my PC before upgrading to the X-Fi. What I did to stop BF2 crashing when selecting the X-Fi card was I removed all the creative software off my PC. If you pop the X-Fi CD back in and re-run the setup you will have the option to "Remove All". Once done, don't restart. Go into Add/ Remove programs in the Control panel and remove all references to "Creative". Then I ran Regedit and deleted any folders labelled as "Creative Tech" under HKLM->SOFTWARE->Creative Tech & HKCU->SOFTWARE->Creative Tech.

I then rebooted into Safemode and deleted the "Creative" folder in C:\Program Files\Creative. I also deleted the "Creative" folder from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Creative and scanned through all other user profiles and again deleted any "Creative" Folders (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Bloggs\Application Data\Creative.)

I would also recommend deleting all the contents from within the "Temp" folder under all the User profiles (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Bloggs\Local Settings\Temp.)

Final step was to go into Device Manager via Control panel or hold down Windows flag key and press pause break key...Delete/ uninstall the "Creative SB X-Fi" from within Sound video and game controllers.

Now reboot back into normal mode....Windows will pickup the X-Fi card. Just click on cancel. Once on your windows desktop, insert your X-Fi driver cd and re-install. I selected minimal install as I really am not going to be using all the software bundled with it. I'm just interesting in the X-Fi card itself. During the install I selected Gamer Mode! Rebooted the PC when requested and in addition I downloaded and installed the updated driver from Creative’s Website and again rebooted!

When I booted back into windows, the creative registration wizard came back up and when it scanned for other Creative products it only found the X-Fi and not the Audigy as well which it did do last time and I believe this is the cause of the BF2 Desktop Crash as BF2 is confused with what sound card you have installed. <- Maybe! lol!

I can now select X-Fi within BF2 and my god what a difference...The game runs soooo much smoother. So much that I am now running in 1280 x 1024 with everything turned up to the max! Was on 1024 x 768 before....Oh, and the sound is lush! lol!

This may look long and winded but far quick than formatting and rebuilding your PC. Especially if your PC is working fine and it's only that 1 game that is the problem....lol!

I did go a little further and uninstalled BF2, renamed the BF2 folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Bloggs\My Documents\Battlefield 2 and deleted the game folder itself (C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2) I would only suggest doing this if the above doesn't work....

I own an X-Fi XtremeMusic, and it's never performed any less than flawlessly for me.
