Processor too hot.

Hey, I built my PC last year, and am currently running on an Intel P4 530 3.0GHZ w/ HT. I've been through my BIOS and other PC monitoring programs such as Everest and PC Wizzard. My CPU temp is reading over 80°C. Is there anyway that I can greatly reduce this temperature? Thanks for your help.

clean out the accumulating lint inside your case/heatsink. get a better fan or more fans for your case..

Already cleaned out the dust, and the temperature has been this high since I built it. And I have 2x80mm fams and 1x120mm fans, along with an airduct.

Reapply thermal grease, clean dust out, get a new heatsink etc... are all ways to cool a CPU. Prescotts run hot but you probably want to cool that sucker down.

EDIT: You probably want to reseat the heatsink and reapply grease if you have already removed the dust.

I'm assuming you used some paste on the processor BEFORE you installed the heatsink?

I've heard that BIOS updates may decrease/increase temperatures. Try that?

They will change what reading you get from a sensor, but it won't actually change the temps.

If you highly polish the bottom of your heatsinl you will drop a few degrees as well. Id invest in a new heatsink i think.

damn that is hot man. I would recommend a new heat sink and fan.
I put on a thermalright xp-90 with arcticsilver 5 paste and a panaflow 92mm fan.
and my temps are way stable. I just checked and my bf2 load was 39c max with a room temp of 71F.
im running a p4 northwood 3.0 @3.2.
of course a prescott will run a little warmer.

im running a p4 presscott 2.8ghz, and it idles at about 40 load it gets up to about 50-60 with a stock heatsink and fan,

i strongly suggest you clean the original thermal paste off and reapply some better thermal paste, i recommend you buy this silver based product i got i can't find it atm but it brough my cpu temps down by 10 degrees C, also polish the copper contact, and run it over with fine wirewool.
