What is the max resolution of BF2? Quad SLI question

With Nvidia's Quad SLI 7900 GPU systems out and Dell's 30 inch LCD supporting 2,500 x 1,600 it got me thinking about BF2. What's the max resolution it can run at. (I'm at a tradeshow right now so I can't fire it up to check myself.)

What do you guys think, any of you looking at getting a quad based SLI gaming system? They start around $6K.

    Discuss. :)

Well it states it can go of unheard of resolutions....don't remember what they are, but I read about it....I doubt BF2 can go as high as the system can output.

i read somewhere that 2 7800gtx 512mbs, on that 30" dell, at max resolution, were lagging to the point of doom3 being unplayable

Most modern games will usually go as high as your montior and GPU can support. However, don't be fooled that the quality will keep on increasing. There is a limit at a certain resolution where everything cannot possibly get anymore detailed. After that, the only differences in resolution increase will be that of the HUD, I believe.

That's rubbish, there was someone on the HL fallout forums that was posting screens of CS:S running at 2000x something on an apple cinema display with an SLI setup. They were amazing almost life like pictures even though my monitor could not display the full effect(1280x1024 max). The source engine at the very least certainly looks much better the higher you set your resolution.

check this unrelated link out that i just now googled http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...aming_preview/

"We’ve been benchmarking the latest high-end graphics cards at the even more demanding resolution of 2048x1536 for about a year now. At 2048x1536 you’re looking at 3.1 megapixels of gaming goodness -- when running through de-dust in Counter-Strike Source on your 21” monitor at 2048x1536 you can practically sit and count every spec of sand on the ground instead of hunting down terrorists or CTs; it’s an incredible experience. But as awesome as that sounds, 2048x1536 is no longer the holy grail of gaming…2560x1600 is."

Yes, that is because the Source engine does support extremely high resolutions. I was already said this in my previous post.

"Most modern games will usually go as high as your montior and GPU can support." i.e 2560 x 1600, 2048 x 1536.

What I was trying to say was that there is a limit. That's simply a fact. The Source engine won't keep on looking good if you keep on pushing the resolution to insane amounts. For example in theory, 5120 x 3200 or even 10240 x 6400.

If you play the original Half-Life (which was released in 1998), then the game isn't going to look amazing even though you have it on 2560 x 1600.

BF2 will run at that res on the 30" Dell and look sweet but you would need something like quad sli to get any form of frame rate, if you find that thread about running bf2 on high i posted some pics, note the low framerates though.
Over all you can only turn things up to high whatever the res, you dont magically get some extra features because of the res, you just see more in a single frame.

Lol, all that power and they still have jaggy edges...no AA at all! These screens are proof for me that higher resolutions DO NOT remove the need for AA like everyone has claimed with 16x12.

These shots are significantly higher res than 16x12 and the jaggies are totally obvious!!!

Still with Quad SLI video cards now available (though horribly expensive) we're really on a new frontier of gaming. Developers will now build into their games super high resolutions, native wide screen support etc. It will probablly be a few years away but photographic quality FPS video games are now on the horizon.
