It's not even FINISHED yet. Support is all in beta. Of course you're sick of it. It doesn't exist yet commercially and thus it's buggier than XP. Why would you put yourself through that?

There will be two versions, right now the beta is 32bit.

                    Are people seriously this stupid?

Do you realize that a TON of programs on your PC are 16 bit programs? Ever heard of DOS?

Holy hell people....just because something is 64 bit, doesnt mean it cant run a 32 bit application.

                    Christ.

Re: Im fed up With vista....

Actuall you're the noob apparently. He's right, although XP doesn't have dos. It has cmd.exe which is a dos emulator. You cannot run dos programs through it.

Windows in 64 bit mode runs a 32 bit emulator. There's already a Windows XP64 but it failed. However, Vista WON'T fail in the same way. Driver support will take a couple of months after release to be fully up to par as 32 bit. Vista isn't like an anticipated game. Not everyone will run out and get it right away. But you can see most top namebrands are already beta testing Vista.

I don't claim to know much of anything about Vista. I'm just talking in 32/64 generally. However, a few things that I've heard about vista make me leary to do the jump.

                        1) I've heard it's going to have DRM built into the core. This will make playing back unlicensed music and movies more difficult.

                        2) It's just an officially supported version of Windows XP64 pretty-fied. All it'll do is add more background crap to take up valuable ram resources and make it harder to game with your current hardware.

^^^^^ X64 did NOT fail, its a great OS I love mine, My x64 windows is fast and STABLE. I have had 4 x32 Windows XP comps (still have the last 1 gave it to my wife) and they were /are all kinda flaky wierd problems all. My x64 has never crashed the only problem I have is my wifes Lexmark printer does not make a x64 driver.

Re: Im fed up With vista....

When I say it failed, I mean it's market appeal and driver support. As you stated, that printer won't work because they won't release a 64bit driver. In order for vista to beat out the non-success of X64 it'll have to have a built in support for 32bit drivers. If it doesn't, and if everyone doesn't suddenly release 64bit drivers of every single piece of hardware, then most people who upgrade will probably downgrade. I see no benefit for Vista other than DX10 over XP, and future 64bit gaming (whenever that'll actually happen on a large scale).

That said, I trialed X64 and the only thing I noticed being different was that IE64 doesn't have to refresh itself with active content.

Re: Im fed up With vista....

Its already been said many times that Vista will support all legacy 32-bit hardware and software (to an extent, but it is 100% 32bit compatible)

It would be insanely stupid for a company to release an operating system that wasnt backward compatible with the latest technology that is just behind the futures advances.

99% of people getting vista at launch with ahve DX9 cards, for instance. Vista will fully support DX9 cards. (although its rumored, and possibly confirmed that you cannot do the full 3d desktop without a DX10 card)
